Since there hasn't been a country that has developed and sustained a middle class without government assistance, will this election signal the end of the middle class in the U.S.?

This election will see a great diminishing of the power of the Democrat Party, the Party of the ultra wealthy and the ultra poor. Ergo this election can only mean good things for the middle class.

If the Dems are the party of the "ultra wealthy," how come the Dems and not the Repubs are the ones pushing to extend the Bush tax cuts for ONLY the non-wealthy? Masochism?

Because the Bush tax cuts are on income. The Democrats are the party of those who already are ultra wealthy, not those with the potential to become so. Democrats hate them, the achievers, because they threaten to join the ranks of the wealthy through hard work rather than an entrenched position or membership in the elite club of government.

And somebody slap Craig, he's stuck on stupid again and just keeps posting the same inane post.

95% of the attacks on liberals I see here are lies or wrong, and I can't remember the other 5%.

You repeat that line way too often. You should just add it to your sig along with your favorite authors, commentators, fap mags, commentary mag, boy band, and all the other crap that no one really cares about.

Start posting accurate and honest comments and Craig could stop calling you all out.

Love Rachael Maddow! Her show 10/18 (podcastable) lists all the news media gut reasons to why things will be so awful for democrats this cycle (as they say).
And... why just maybe it won't be.
And how the media is playing into all this "oh my God the sky is falling" theme.
Lets just wait and see...
I plan to vote and NOT republican.
My friends are energized to vote and not republican.
And btw, none of us have been "polled".
Especially since most my friends have no landline, just cell phones.
Yes.. they made the switch. Me too!
Polling's do not call cell phones. Not in my experience.
This will be interesting. And as far as demise.. Maybe the demise of "polling accuracy".

The middle class died two years ago.

The media keeps saying the sky is falling in order to get the vote out for their favorite tax and spend lib.

I don't know if the election signals it. It might be more accurate to say that this prolonged recession/depression signals it. However, I doubt that any of the elected politicians, especially the TEA Party morons, will have any clue as to how to end it and save the middle class. So, it might as well signal the end of the American middle class and the death of the American Dream.

I've noticed where I live the 60 and over crowd are coming out in force this election. When I voted on Monday I didn't see anyone that was under 30 at the poling station.

The middle class is dying, albeit slowly, for the past thirty years. This next election will not be the death knell of it. The demise will continue and tend to be overlooked, much as the frog in a slowly heated (to boiling) bowl of water. It will go quietly into the night.
