Will this cpu cooler do?

I have an original AMD cooler that came with a 1900+ palo. from amd. Will this cooler work for a 2000+ palo. as well?
It has a thermal pad.

Nimbus

PS. It hasn't been used ever.

it should work
the heat difference between the palo 1900 and the palo 2000 shouldn't be big enough to cause heat problems

they used the same heatsinks i think, so it should work

the only thing i would do is take off the thermal pad and use arctic silver 2/3, or even some generic thermal paste.
its much better than the thermal pad supplied 😉

that is if you are not overclocking 🙂😉

I'm not really into buying a new cooler, you see this one is free 😀
I have already thought about the Arctic Silver but if I am to buy that it will be by mail order, which will double the price..... What about standard cooling paste? Will that do/is that better than the thermal pad?

And about removing the thermal pad - do you just rip it off using force?

Btw. can anyone tell me the "standard" idle temprature on a 2000+? That way I could compare it to mine when I get it up running.

One last thing: The layer of cooling paste should be very thin right? Not just a large blob...?

I know it's kinda stupid to be a cheapsgate concerning cooling but I'm constantly broke due to two wheels and 746cc that I have in the garage.... 😉

I am currently running a XP 2000+ with the retail HS+fan. Currenly, motherboard monitor in Windows XP reports my idle CPU temp to be 37deg C with a system temperature of 24deg C. I keep my apartment fairly cool and the side door is off of my case, so that explains the low system temperature.

The BIOS reports the idle CPU temperature around 37-38deg C.

I would think around 40deg C or lower while idle with the retail HSF would be "typical".
