Hi, guys I just ordered two of the 1700+ "B" cpus from newegg and hope to overclock to 2ghz and beyond 😛. Please lmk what you guys think the temps will be and if it will too hot for comfort. Thanks in advance

Here is a link to the cooler in question: SVC GC69

BTW: this is posted in another thread so please don't flame me, because it applies in each one

this heatsink that you chose......well...

+ cheap
- it's not thick
- i didn't find any tests from it

well if you have a change to see that if it's all aluminium just forget it and buy another heatsink....if there is a copperheart i think it's okay....i know that spire falconrock 2 is cheap and good heatsink => falcon2....this is a wrong place to use less money.....think hard!!...😀....

The GC68 & GC69 are actually some of the better buys available. Not cheap, more like inexpensive, an honest bargain. The GC 69 is very similar to the Spire model recommended by Daysleeper, minus the copper insert. I wouldn't pick one for radical overclocking, though- For that, you'll need to spend more, something like the thermalright slk 800 models, panaflo 80mm H1a fan, just so it won't be obnoxiously loud...

That is far from inexpensive though.

To get 2GHz out of that you will probably need a more powerful fan. It will be a pretty loud solution not even giving the best results. It is a great HS if you are only mildly OCing though. To get 2GHz I reccomend at least a Thermalright SK7 and Y.S. Tech Adjustable fan or something comparable on a rheobus.

i just changed from ax-7 to slk-800 and there is really no margin between these heatsinks.....but if i get deltafan (the loud one) then i know that slk-800 beats ax-7 with a reasonable margin...

That heatsink is a good deal, but not meant for high overclocks. Get yourself a Thermalright SK7, SLK800, or SLK900 😉

You can't go wrong with the above choices for overclocking 🙂 I've changed my SK-7 to a SLK-800 and only got a 2-3 deg C improvement.
