HI there,

I'm looking at a new motherboard and processor, but due to budget constraints I have to use my existing AGP vidcard (x800xl) and I am hoping that the combo I've chosen will be suitable. I have found the Epox 9NDA3I to go with an X2 4800+ but there is some conflicting information as to whether or not the X2 is supported.

There is no mention of X2 support in the "Supports" description, but in smaller print below it says "All Epox socket 939 models support Athlon64 X2 Dual Core CPU."

Should I assume that the X2 4800+ will work well with this board?

I will be using my 2gb of DDR400, 2x Sata drives and 1x Pata...

Oh, one last thing, is the 2mb of cache on the 4800+ a significant improvement over the 1mb found on the 4600+? The price diff seems to be around $80 and that is within my budget if the cache is worthwhile.

The extra money is worth it for the cache, and why wouldn't the existing hardware not work with the new setup?

 
per your link, it does say its x2 compatibile. if u have any questions beyond that i would suggest to call epox. generally, any more if it supports 64-FX, then it will most likely support x2 cores.... BUT theres always exeptions to the rulez!!

i'd say your safe because of that disclaimer. but i personally would take a screen shot of that page b4 u drop the dough to cover your @$$!

But please dont tell me your desiging your whole pc around an agp card... sell that agp on ebay and get a nice pci-e mobo and video card... VERY WORTH YOUR TIME!! besides, why pony up the dough on a kick @$$ cpu (i own this 4800+ and love it) and give it a crappy card?

You could also check out ASRock's 939Dual-Sata2, and those support X2s, and at the same time, leaves you open for a PCIe video card for a future upgrade. You will be able to use your existing hardware no problems!
 
The ASRock seems like a perfect fit thanks! That will give me the option of a PCI-E card in a few months when I can afford it, but let me upgrade my lagging Barton 2500+ in the meantime.
