Will this be the end of Lieberman as his support tanks?

Just ask Manual Noreaga and Saddam Huessein, hell hath no fury for a tin pot dictator who will not stay bought.

And now Leiberman has managed to alienate just about everyone in his home State. We must remember that Lieberman got his start in the US Senate by running well to the right of
Lowell Weicher. And later, for possible motives of his own, rode the coat tails of GWB by becoming almost the strongest advocate of the Iraq war. Which got him on numerous talk shows but did not translate into Presidential timber for the 2004 democratic Presidential nomination. And by 2006, as the popularity of the Iraq war tanked, ole Joe was left so politically crippled that he could not even win his own parties nomination for re-election for Senate. And in the grand scheme of things, that should have ended Leiberman's political career.

But because the Connecticut Republicans ran a total patsy for Senate, the ever resourceful Joe Lieberman was able to run as an Independent and win, as the real CT. Republican only commanded less than 20% support in his own party. And as an Independent, Lieberman has caucused with the Dems ever since.

But now Lieberman has seemingly alienated everyone by being the deciding 60'th vote on health care reform. Its gotten him scant reward from the dems as he carries a 81% disapproval record among dems, he did somewhat better among the R's until he screwed them on health care reform, and his ratings are in the sewer with independents also.

While Lieberman may be safe until 2012 unless a recall election gets him, its really difficult to envision any political future beyond that. And given the fact that Joe has managed to alienate everyone, its also difficult to envision Joe taking much joy from serving in the Senate meanwhile. I wonder if Obama might find it wise to offer Lieberman some plum like Ambassador to Israel and take the chance on electing a stronger democrat to replace him as Senator in 2010.

And as a somewhat partisan democrat, I have never liked or trusted Joe Lieberman , and now, as OP on this thread, I ask if anyone of any political persuasion has any like or trust remaining for Joe Lieberman? Politically a dead man walking.

I have no use for him. Seems to me Al Gore owes us an apology. It's all about the CT voters, but I'd have to think he's gone, but not soon enough.

If we had one more progressive in the Senate, we'd have a lot better healthcare bill, without the public option removed.

There has been a rumor going about that Lieberman has for some time intended to retire after the end of his current term. That could perhaps explain some of his politically self-destructive behavior.

Don't ask me to defend him. Not only is he a total jackass, he is dumb as a box of rocks.

I didn't realize his fellow senators hated him so much.

All of a sudden I think he has value I didn't see before.

If we had one more socialist looney in the Senate, we'd have an even more disastrous socialist steaming pile of dung healthcare bill, without the public option removed.

There, fixed that for ya. No need to thank me, I'm a nice guy like that.

What goes around...comes around....and such is politics. Leiberman never was a very good goosestepper anyway.

Lieberman has always been "the worst of both worlds", a liberal in the sense of wanting big government, socialism and waste, but at the same time alligned with the right wing in terms of war etc.

"Just ask Manual Noreaga and Saddam Huessein, hell hath no fury for a tin pot dictator who will not stay bought."

What an odd sentence to begin with. If I believed in a "hell," I'd say that Saddam probably does have an idea as to it's fury. Noreiga wouldn't though - he's not dead. Probably not the best expression to butcher in this sense, but whatever...

I've never understood support for Lieberman, and find his flip-flopping and sensitivity towards all things Israeli to run contrary to the interests of his state and country. Good riddance; may his fall be abrupt and final. Were I a Connecticut voter a recall is exactly what I'd be interested in right about now.

My... what an awfully big tent you have.

Since I said you are a political illeterate I ues the least I can do is to lead you to a little water.

What does the term big tent mean, anyway? Is it a term about policy (what I was talking about) or voters?

I'd say it's primarily about voters - with some possible ramifications for policy.

Think about it. What would big tent mean as you use it, for policy?

"Why, we're both for and against LOTS of issues! We don't paint ourselves in a corner by picking sides - for example, on the finance industry, we're both for the public AND the industry! big tent!"

No, that doesn't work too well. You are basically attacking my post for saying "this is my position". You can't do much worse looking for an attack thatn saying "that's not big tent of you to take a position".

No, big tent is saying "we can use more voters, so let's find the next group we can most easly attract, by dropping or softening or de-prioritizing some of our positions as needed."

If a party can voters by being strongly for something, they're really, really for it. Strong speeches, repeated mentions, banners with catch phrases, black and white zero tolerance language.

And when they can get more votes by trying to get voters on both sides of the issue, if they're pursuing big tent', you suddently see them with waffully messages tring to please both sides.

Watch a Republican running in a liberal area talk on abortion for example, Watch some blue dog Democrats talk in Republican areas.

So, no, I don't have a 'big tent' when it comes to a Lieberman, when it comes to, say, preferring the finance industry to have its abuses regulated.

But it's a pretty big tent when you consider it's in 90% of the people's interest.

Its nice to see PBJABBER have that sense of humor about elephant shit, but when the ring masters are Reid and Pelosi, we must wonder if Republirats somehow have a point.

But all doubt is dispelled when the Republirats offer those other ringmasters waiting in the wings in Boehner and McConnell.

Its very hard to maintain a sense of humor when the overwhelming desire is to vomit.

Please explain his stance on health care and campaigning for McCain/Palin.

Well, I am usually a lot less serious than you.

2010 is not going to be a good year for incumbents. The Democrats will have a very high attrition in the general elections, but the Republicans will have to face the music in their primaries. I expect we will see a lot of new faces all around.

He does not want government to take over the private sector ie health care; he did not believe Obama would protect the nation from enemies foreign and domestic.
