I have two....

EF 75-300 1:4-5.6
EF 35-80mm 1:4-5.6

Will these work (I'm guessing the AF might not work), how good are they, and how well will they work with a DSLR.

Without knowing the brand of the camera and the lens no one can help you.

Generally if buy the same brand camera as the one the lens were made for they should work. I.E. Almost any Nikon lens will work on the new DSLR, how well they work is another guestion though.

I do not know if it is the same with Canon.

My bad...slipped my mind to type the brand...

They are both Canon lenses...my dad has them so I can't get anymore info about them.
I want to use them on a Canon DSLR (XTi or 20D).

Yeah, I just read it somewhere. I just wasn't sure if it was accurate or not. I have some old second hand lenses my dad bought. They don't sound to be too spectacular from the reviews so I think I'm gonna go for a deal that includes the kit lens just so I have something to start from. It's kind of nice to be able to use that old telephoto though. It'd be perfect for the zoo.

Both lenses will work. However, having IS on a telephoto is very nice. You can shoot better, clearer pictures with it. Just remember to multiply by 1.6 (conversion factor) if you get the XTi.

To clarify:
Any EF lenses will fit any Canon EOS Camera. Either film or digital.
EF-S lenses will only fit the 20D, 30D, Digital Rebel (300D), Digital Rebel XT (350D) and Digital Rebel (400D). They will not fit the 5D or 1D series pro cameras.

EF-S will NOT fit older bodies like the 10D or D30.

Have you guys had experiences with these lenses. They sound pretty crappy from other reviews I've read.

i think there are a couple of nikon lenses that will actually screw up your shiny new camera, though theoretically they are "F-mount"

edit: and yes, EF lenses will mount on any canon eos camera and work. EF-S lenses will mount on the 20D, 30D, and digital rebel series. presumably they will work on any new APS-C body canon comes out. they do not work with the APS-H bodies or the 35mm frame bodies.

edit2: fix the damn quotes!

The 35-80 ain't so great. But can you try it? If you are happy with them, why worry about reviews?
