Will Thermaltake480 psu run 7800GT SLI?

Looking to go the SLI route. Hate to upgrade my psu so early. Runs fine right now but not sure if it will handle two GT's. The GT with COD2 for 299 makes the card ~260 so not bad and within reach but if I have to throw down another 100 for a new psu, it kinda kills it for me.

Anyone running SLI with this psu?

my seasonsonic 500wat psu runs to 7800GT's, its a SLI certified PSU though, but long as you have dual rails at around 15-16amps each it should be fine, that or one big phat rail with a good 30amps

Well then its not looking good. I only have 1 12v rail and its only pushing 18A. Guess I have to live with the one GT(which is not too bad a thing) of see if Santa(wife) will suprise me.

The PSU would quckly blow up trying to run two 7000 series NVIDIA cards. You need at least 30 amps on the 12v rail to really ensure stability. I think NVIDIA officially reccomends around 30amps.

A SLI-certified single rail PSU needs 34A on the 12v rail (I can't remember where I read it). Many people are running their SLI rigs fine with less than that, but you'll definitely need a new psu.

Thanks for the replies. Looks like I'll be needing to make a decision. Just wish I was building a pc for someone, I could just move mine along. Oh well, there could be worse decisions to make.

Yea, the more I read about Tt psu's the more I may upgrade my psu anyway. Even if I don't buy another GT. I try to OC everything I can and I don't want to let this thing kill something that is working fine.

I am leaning toward the Antec truepower 2 550. Dual rails with 19A on each 12v rail, 24 pin connector and 2 sata plugs. Seems to fit my needs just fine. And if I decide to go SLI, I'm good to go. I know, I'm rationalizing but what the heck.....it's almost Christmas.

I was also thinking of upgrading my A64 3200 @ 2.35 to an Opteron 148 but after reading the xbitlabs review showing CPU speeds vs Shooters, it don't look like I need to upgrade my cpu at all. There's $200 right there.

Decisions, decisions.
