I currently have a 7900gs and it is fine for most games, but any new ones that come out I find that I have trouble at medium settings at 1680x1050 and must lower them if I want smooth framerates throughout.

I usually ask for a new video card about every other christmas, and for this one I think I might do the same. I usually will ask for a 100-120$ card for replacement.

You think there might be some significant options this christmas for me? If so give me some model#'s and possible new release #'s that might be in price range

$150 AR for 4860's NO - by December will be some better options with regard to factory OC'd cards and improved cooling especially in that price range

If you like Nvida theres plenty of options out there in that price range as well, 9800GTsare in the $140-160 range and 9800GTX's are right around $200...

You can go even cheaper 8800/9600GSO

Is your PSU up to the task?

Yes.

Fall almost always sees new video cards. At the very least we know the die shrink for the GTX280/260 are coming.

I would also expect lower (and cheaper) versions of the GTX/4xxx series.

Plus there's always Black Friday to look forward to.

There are several 9600GTs on Newegg right now under $100 after rebate so that would be an upgrade right there. The 4850 seems to be getting near $125. So you already have some options.
