Will there be 2nd Presidential debate?

Instead of mic off, I propose they do what the award shows do. Music starts to play and drowns our the speaker after a few seconds.
Much more humiliating that way and will discourage going over. These are professionals they should be more than capable of giving an answer within the time allotted.
Trump will just keep talking.......we all know how that goes!!

Yeah here’s the thing the music gets louder and after maybe 8 seconds you can no longer hear what the talker is saying.
It would be EPIC to see the President continue to talk but not hear his words over Taylor Swift singing.
Edit: Fuck would be even better if they allowed Trump to pick what music plays Biden out and Biden pick what music plays Trump out.

In this scenario I predict the President selling to play time rights.

Matt Yglesias has a good point - let Trump talk. He ruined the debate by ranting like a maniac and the voters hated it. If he wants to keep doing it then people will continue to hate it and will presumably vote accordingly.

What I predict is that everyone around him is telling him to shut the fuck up and next debate he will appear relatively normal (for him). At this point the media will fall all over itself to praise his new presidential demeanor.

The microphones can not be subjectively turned off/on by the moderator or anyone for that matter. It will open the door to favoritism and bias (whether it's legitimate or not). If that function were available last night, how many times do you think Wallace would have turned off Trump's mic versus Biden's? And what would the GOP headlines read today if that occurred.

Turn them off objectively. Once one word is uttered a computer shuts off the mic.

People very close to the President are saying.
People very, very close to the President are saying
People the President works closely with are saying

**see what I did there, I used the rule of three to make it important and put the thought into your head three times, just like the President does with nearly everything because he read about the rule of three in a sales book in 1989.

Running on isn't a big problem. It's controllable, after a fashion. Interrupting & talking over is worse, and that was Trump's whole schtick last night. So when a question is directed to him, Biden's mic is automatically off until his time is up & vice-versa. I doubt he'd agree to it.

Somebody needs to throw firecrackers at the door during the 2nd debate so bunker boy can flee the stage in a mad frenzy! 😛

I am not sure..
Trump needs to cut and run,,,make some sort of excuse.....
He won't. Polls have him trailing. He's the big cheese, he has to run the show, wherever he goes. He will want more cracks at Biden. He's a bully. Bullies bully. He can't help himself.

In a rational world that is correct reasoning. In Trumpian world his followers (and Trump) think he won because he dominated. Everyone else was repealed. Those few diehards that were willing to sit through it would and can say Biden won by making establishing some points (like the environmental section) but I think those viewers are few and far between and amounted to a miniscule portion of the "undecided."

OTOH maybe enough viewers were repelled by Trump's chaos and crazy uncle antics and will say enough is enough, I can't stand this for another four years.

Yes, but what Trump and his followers think doesn’t matter as they are already baked in. Now all that matters is the undecided and they by and large seemed to be repelled by it.

I don’t think undecided voters matter as much this year either. They represent a much smaller slice of the electorate. What matters is voter turnout. Did the debates do anything to hurt turnout? It doesn’t seem like it.

Trump's antics may well have turned off fence sitters. They sure as Hell didn't gain him anything. It's too soon to tell.

All joking aside the commission needs to install 2 minute timers on candidate microphones that the moderator starts at the beginning of the candidates time and ends without moderator interaction so that a candidate might not rage on them when their mic shuts off. 😱 😵

I'm beginning to worry that this election is going to come down to a referendum on if we still believe in our electoral system at all. It seems to me that no matter who wins a significant number of people are not going to accept the results. If the courts have to decide this election I'm not sure what happens, but I'm not confident that we will have another.

Our societies faith in the electoral process has been low for decades now, with lots of people not believing that their vote counts, or that they are disenfranchised. There has been a general sense of apathy for the system even among educated people that should know better, like many of the posters here on this forum. I'm quite afraid that if this election is decided in the courts, especially if it is because there is credible claims of interference in the system, that apathy might turn into outright hostility. It could be the thing that breaks us as a nation.
