Sadly I agree. The powers that be are unable to understand complex modern problems and using 19th century methods to fix what is beyond their ken. They don't even know there is a box much less how to think out of one.

Worse, no matter who is in power. Nobody in power has any interest in fixing the fundamental problems we have been creating for decades.

As long as we have free trade, the job market will never improve.

As long as the government bails out the banks, nothing will ever improve.

As long as the banking monopolies are allowed to set interest rates, and print money out of thin air, nothing will ever improve.

Absolutely better, no matter who's president. I think a lot more gets done with Obama, frankly, but Romney is really a moderate a heart despite his BS claims in the primary, so I'd have some faith in him. In any case, there's already wide agreement that the tax code and Medicare need to be addressed in the next couple years, hopefully with both additional revenue and additional spending cuts. That'll do the deficit a lot of good and simplify the tax code. Great for businesses and consumers alike. Medicare age of eligibility should probably rise, maybe a year or two but nothing more. Already a bunch of good financial regs implemented and starting to get implemented with credit card standards and banking fees, as well as banks refunding their customers courtesy of CFPB ($85M from AMEX just recently in fact). Economy is undeniably on the upswing as well, and there'll be a ton more jobs as baby boomers continue to retire. That'll inevitably lead to another boom, also great for the deficit.

If anything, the weight of the current and near-term deficit (which'll reach near $20T in the next ~3-4 yrs no matter who's POTUS), will put immense pressure on reducing that deficit and incentivizing surpluses, which would be a great national trend. It's not out of reach at all, there was certainly nothing magical about it in 2000. Basically economic growth + higher taxes.

Where are the jobs supposed to come from?

Last time I looked, companies were leaving the US like rats leaving a sinking ship.

Yeah that sort of is the root of my pessimism. we are a 70% consumption based economy fueled by supply side econ, all the supply is coming from elsewhere.

I would say "worse", but as I see it as a consistent slide downwards I'm going with "the same".

Like a road runner cartoon we're dangling in mid air, just before the fall.

Government stimulus and printing of money is only going to delay the inevitable. We have a debt to pay.

Absolutely no doubt, we will be much worse off. Spiraling debt, idiot politicians spending like drunken sailors, dumb voters who are too busy watching Honey Boo Boo to educate themselves on the issues, masses of illegal immigrants coming into the country, at least 4 more years of obummer, more and more kids born out of wedlock into unstable families.

Basically, neither party has the fortitude to tackle any of the real problems... and even if they did, they wouldn't get very far anyway because the public tends to punish politicians who speak the truth instead of promising the moon and the sky. It's all downhill from here, no matter who gets elected. It just goes downhill faster with obummer.

You know it's kind of funny but she came out in support of Obama;)

This pretty much sums it up...

Romney will be the worst statist of the current union. He prefers involuntary union over any liberty. He's going to raise taxes with his flat marginal rate tax, he's going to make the Fed 100% where his Treasury dept. just prints money and decides who to give it to first, military spending will at least quadruple in 2011 USD. He will regulate (cartelize) the living hell out of everything but he won't use his corporate boot to kick my ass into work because I'll be dead. He will make the dept of energy and education and Pelosi care at least 10x stronger than Obama could in his wildest dreams. He won't balance the budget, but he may come close with the low interest rates and the high taxes he plans to impose. He'll strengthen IP to the point that it would be nigh impossible to torrent here anymore. It doesn't matter if he takes away "women's right to vote" because no one's vote matters. He'll use and abuse the 14th Amendment like no President ever before. He won't even be President, he'll remain Governor (as in Conquerer) Romney. I'll call him Conquistador Romney because he is going to aide the tyrants against secession all over the world. He's going to aide the Indo people in smashing the Natives European Scots, the Basques, the Catalonians, and many others. Many Jews will be smashed by Romney too when he invades the middle east and when he turns Bernanke into a true Helicopter... the Fed has already ruined enough Jews but it can only self destruct now. Romney's going to regulate trade with more embargoes and trade agreements. The WTO will give him everything he wants for the state he wants just like they've done for Bush and Obama.

Most of Israel isn't even Jewish and I don't think BB gun leftnuttintheyahoos is either by Jewish Law. The Nation of Israel is about to have a war forced on them by their state and the tool known as Netanyahu.

Whoever invented the concept of the "the body of the people" must be laughing with Satan and King George III now.

You can't import 8 mbpd and export a few hundred thousand barrels a day and call yourself an energy exporter.
Domestic consumption 20X greater than the few piddly barrels of refined product that go out. Heres some simply math for you 8m X 365 X $100 = 292 Billions dollars leaving the economy .5m X 356 X $150 'finished product' = 27 Billions back in from export, nets you 265 Billion $ still leaving the economy

My daughters not married and her boy friend and her just bought a house and the 2 boys get lots and lots of love and caring. They don't have the marriage penalty

I would say worse. There are so many issues that will be converging over the next decade that I just don't see us being in a better situation.
