I have an Athlon 3800X2 and ECS nforce4-A939 motherboard.
The CPU was overclocked to 2.4GHZ. I couldn't find the PCI lock on the bios.
After about one week, the ethernet didn't want to work anywore.
The litter yellow and green light still flashed. There was still response in windows when I plugged the cable in and out. But there was no connection with the cable modem.
Then I just reinstall the windows, the installation just stalled at " installing devices" step.
Disabling network at bios solved the problem.
Also tried two versions of linux, didn't detect network at all.
So I'm quite sure the network is dead.
Now I got a new same motherboard.
It's such a waste to not to overclock the CPU.
But I need the network. Is the overclock going to damage the ethernet for sure?
I guess I can always buy a usb ethernet adapater.
Thanks!

Hi gear and Welcome to the Forums!

Hmm.. Seems doubtful to me that the OC would physically damage the device. If your PCI bus was running out of spec (33mhz) it would likely foul up other stuff like the data on your HDD as well.

If nothin else, here's a free bump for you.

Oh, get Everst Home Edition from MajorGeeks.com and run it to the check the PCI bus frequency. You may find that you a lock and its automatic (i.e., no option in BIOS for it)

Is it the Nvidia ethernet port you are having trouble with? I stopped using mine, because it was giving me nothing but trouble. Disconnecting and causing lockups.

At one point my ethernet on my board went bad as well, I reinstalled the drivers for it and that fixed it, you could try that.

Been using my onboard Gbit lan since i got the board last year. Seems to still run fine. As long as your pci/agp lock is working i see no reason why overclocking would cause it any damage. i have no idea if that ecs board locks, but its probably the cause of your ethernet failing.

No. But I must disable it to make the installation of Linux or Xp to work.
Now, I think it's because of the motherboard's poor quality.
