Will the HX1000 fit in my P180?

Seems I'm not the only one with this problem 😀

Will the Corsair HX1000 fit? I've heard that I might have to do away with the lower chamber fan, which would kinda suck because I like my hdds to be as cool as possible. With my current PSU the clumped-up cables almost touch it (Enermax 485W), but seeing as how the HX is modular I figure I can make it work so long as the actual unit is not touching the fan.

Or should I just get a new case?

I seriously doubt it; I'd break out the measuring tape to make sure, but I really doubt it.

Even if you remove the fan (which isn't a good idea b/c it cools the HDs in the lower chamber) you still have the metal divider that the fan mounts to. That will get in the way of the power cable connectors. A Dremel would fix that though! 😀 That divider isn't structural and the case will be fine without it.

I have a P180 (not currently using it) and that lower chamber is the case's one real weak point. There's not enough space between the PS<--FAN-->Hard Drives.

Do you think you could simply relocate the fan? Some creative zip tying may be in order here unless you just really want to buy a case.

I've decided to buy a new case, with Nehalem and r700 coming soon I may as well make a project out of it.

But I did get it to fit by removing the fan in the lower chamber. I tried losing the plastic housing Antec stuck in there and screwing the fan directly onto the other side of the divider, where the HDD cage lives. SATA power cables were fine but the data ones wouldn't fit. HOWEVER, I ordered some right-angled ones and I am 99% sure they will fit. If you have no more than 2 HDDs you can use the upper chamber, which also has a fan mounting. I have 3 though ;(

The PSU itself has no screw holes for attaching that bracket thing to the raised "plynth", not really an issue unless you were carting the thing round to LANs I guess? Screw holes on the back are plenty secure, the plynth has these silicone pads which grip the unit somewhat.

So, the answer is, YES, it fits! 😀

You may even be able to keep an 80mm fan in the original position if you use some brackets to reach the screwholes on the divider.

Where there's a will, there's a way.

Does the PSU 'cage' still fit on the 1000HX? It fits fine on my 520HX, but my friends 650TX it was super hard to get on.

I had to dremel the back motherboard plate for me to fit cables through in the RC690 due to the deepness of the psu. If your familiar with the RC690 I can tell you that it had no issues fitting in the slot at all but the length is noticable compared to the ST56ZF 560w i replaced.

I would say take the back of your current psu and add 2 inches. If its against a chasis wall then your going to have to dremel. If its not, then you should be fine.

The sucker is heavy as a brick.
