I voted Yes for both, not because I think the Republicans deserve to win but simply because the Democrats will suffer the majority of the public's rage for the nation's transformation into a third world country. In 2016 it will probably switch back to Democratic control after the public takes it out on the Republicans unless a third party comes to prominence or unless there is a bloody revolution.

No we weren't. If you truly believe that then you have the memory of a goldfish.

As for the original question: The Republicans will almost certainly make substantial gains in Congress, but getting a majority will be pretty difficult for them considering the numerical hole they are in right now. As for the White House, I have no idea. Republicans don't really seem to have any likely candidates steering the ship at the moment.

Stock market was good, but the GSE's mandates had already been changed and Glass-Steagall had been repealed, so we were headed for the crash and just didn't know it. As to likely Republican candidates, would anyone honestly have considered Obama a likely candidate in 2005? He wasn't yet a US senator, and as a state senator his only real achievement was authoring a bill expanding an existing health care program.

Anyone who thinks the US is turning into a 3rd world country or anything even remotely approaching a 3rd world country, has never been to a 3rd world country. (unless you mean one like Singapore! What a great place!)

It's amazing any GOP politician ever gets elected isn't it?

Question: was a 600 billion dollar medicare drug benefit program which did not provide any method by which it was to be paid for and was simply dumped into the deficit "idiotic legislation"?

Yes.

Question: Does the left really aspire to just be better than the guy yall say is the worst president in history? Its like saying your wife's cooking is better than deep fried shit.

The point I was responding to was Pokerguy saying he wanted enough Republicans in office to stop idiotic democratic legislation. But if adding 600 billion onto the deficit is idiotic, and running an incredibly expensive war while simultaneously cutting taxes and not reducing spending is idiotic, then I'm not sure what advantages putting the GOP in office accomplishes. Unless he meant he preferred idiotic gop legislation to idiotic democratic legislation, in which case, he would be the one arguing that his wife's cooking is better than deep fried shit.

So...tell me...how's Afghanistan going? You know...that war that Obama supported.

Not to good at the moment but that's to be expected after Bush, the Neocons and all the idiots that voted for him took their eye off the goal there and neglected that war by their unnecessary invasion and occupation of Iraq.

God I hope not. I hope no one from either of the two major parties gets elected(or re-elected).

Amazing that that many people have only the one eye. Guess it's like liberals and the one brain? LOL

Our nation is going to take on more and more third world character--homeless people, hungry people, and people without health care. What qualifies a nation to be third world in your view? Does a nation need to be completely destitute to qualify? Would you count Mexico as being a third world country? (I do.)

Maybe if the GOP figures out how to clone an army of millions of more angry old white dudes.

Too scientific, the GOP is doomed to be a regional minority party of extremists pissing off the average worker with socially conservative hypocrisy and reactionary blind nationalism.

Besides the fact they are just plain clueless as they isolate themselves with their own propaganda.

Nope, I don't think so. The GOP has saddled itself with having to rely on either complete puppets, or complete morons, and a large chunk of it's base has been slowly coming to realize that it's been taken advantage of. It's not a matter of the GOP needing to become more liberal, but rather a case of needing to become more realistic. Part of that reality is that older generations who count money and religion as the most important issues are fast disappearing.
I'm not saying that the GOP couldn't someday totally re-invent itself and do well, but at present it won't be able to do that while being held back by those who worship the dollar and/or their bible above all else. Just don't see it happening by 2012 anyway. The country is still raw from the cornholing Cheney and Bush gave it for 8 years.

I could care less about the White House. I would much rather have conservatives control congress.
Average Stock Market gain during Democratic Congress: +9.8%
Average Stock Market gain during Republican Congress: +30.1%

Average Stock Market gain during Democratic President:
with Democratic Congress support: +13.2%
with Republican Congress opposition: +32.6%
(+18.8% regardless of Congress)

Average Stock Market gain during Republican President:
With Democratic Congress opposition: +6.6%
With Republican Congress support: +25.3%
(+13.3% regardless of Congress)

Are you ever in for a dissapointment.

What would it matter? It's a corrupted two party system anyway.

With out universal health care, that drops us down to second class for that alone.
