Will the garbage man pick up a dead 17" monitor?

The title says it all. I've got a dead 17" monitor that's been sitting in my computer room for months now and I want to dispose of it but I don't really know how. Am I supposed to take it to some electronics graveyard, just throw it out with the trash, or take it somewhere so that they can pull it apart and recycle it?

This reminds me of a time where me and a friend saw some people throwing out some great computer chairs. We took them for a spin around the block. People throw out great stuff.

After about 10 or so computers my garbage men stopped taking computer stuff. Now I have about 20 empty cases in the basement.

Dude, look in your phone book and see if you can't find a place that will take the monitor and dispose of it properly. Monitors have quite a bit of lead in them. Not good for the water table, or your great grandchildren.

I know around here they won't. The only thing they will take here is the trash in the one garbage can we are allowed per household. If you want them to take anything extra, it has to be in these special garbage bags (regular bags with the garbage company's logo) purchased from the garbage company. We've tried to get them to take extra garbage by first putting it in a green bag, and putting it on top of the garbage can. The garbage man will actually take that one off the top, and set it on the ground. One time he left a note, stating he would not take garbage that went too far over the top of the can! These guys get paid to pickup garbage, and then get all picky about it. They're not even hardcore garbage men! Back in the day, they actually HAD to get out of the truck, not they just use that little arm thingy to pick up the cans.
