I am curious where the story may go from here. I think tying up the Adria line is probably the most logical direction for an expansion, but should D4 come out sometime down the road I'm not sure what story it would tell.

Don't be fooled, humans can easily rebirth "Diablo" in a sense.

Or they can pull some shit out their ass where the hell was here name, Leah?, had siblings :O

Blizzard always pulls some shit out their ass and some how manages to massage it in and next think you know it works due to 15 books that tie it all together.

I'm sure that if they really want to do another Diablo game, they'll figure out a storyline in which Diablo once again unbanishes himself and appears to threaten Sanctuary. But the two expansions are planned to cover until 2014 and then "Titan" will come after that which is an entirely new IP.

I know this is an old thread from long before D3 was released, but for those wondering, I remember reading at some point (during D3 development) that Blizzard stated they would not be making a D4. Doesn't mean that won't change, but that was their stance during D3 development, and D4 is at least 5-10 years away even if they change their minds.

Corporations like Activision, Blizzard, Vivendi etc don't just can their franchises because they have run their course. Diablo 3 is the best selling Blizzard game and could end up being the best selling AAA title of all time so, unless an asteroid falls on Blizz HQ or something, there's going to be a Diablo 4 as sure as the sun will rise tomorrow morning. Come to think of it, it will probably happen even if an asteroid does hit Blizzard.

So it did continue. But if history is any indication we'll need another 10 years. And THIS version makes constant profits for Blizzard, so it may last even longer.

Bungee/microsoft/whatever stated that halo reach would be the last halo game (immediately followed by a quick snicker from me).

? Blizzard is a cold hearted business these days. Diablo 3 sold 6.5m units in a few days. Blizzard are likely already planning a Diablo 4, with a suitable 5 year or so hiatus between the games. Why would they stop making Diablo games if the last game was a record breaking seller?!

As for the plot....they could make it about a Potato Lord named Steve who shits out potatoes and people would still buy it. It's not like people buy it for the plot line anyway.

ROFL. Yeah. I get your point. There are so many plot-holes in the story that begs for an explanation. What happened to Leah & Adria? Wasn't Leah supposed to be all strong and powerful and had a personality of her own? And nothing was mentioned about Adria in the end. The last time we see Adria is ordering Leah to step into the heavens. There should be some sorta closure, but no. Nobody cares really. Cos its the jump to the next difficulty then.

Hehe. That's a nice little thought. Or they could make Adria a bigger and better Diablo. Or get Leah in. Just thought of a catchy title - Leahblow. Wow, that was lame.

What do you mean? What happened to Leah was clear as day.

Leah's body was used as a host for Diablo. Presumably once Diablo had a body to manifest in it became little more than a shell and Diablo was 'complete' inside it; the shell was destroyed by Imperius whenever Diablo approached the heavens. Leah's dead and gone with the possible exception of her soul 'lingering' somewhere.

it will come in the expansio for sure...

Leah is Diablo and Adria's daughter. Whenever the 'Dark Wanderer' (your character in D1, canonically "Aidan" the eldest son of King Leoric) defeated Diablo (D1) he placed the soulstone inside himself in an attempt to contain Diablo's soul but was corrupted. Aidan/The Dark Wanderer slept with Adria who then gave birth to Leah; presumably after Diablo had taken control of him and this is when Adria 'turned' but I don't know that that's 'verified' or not.

My understanding is that Diablo that you kill in D1 is Aidan. At the end of the game you kill Diablo and he turns back into a boy and you cut the soulstone out and embed it into your own head. What I got from the D3 storyline is that Leah's father was the Diablo of Diablo 1, not the character, so Aidan is the father yes but Aidan isn't the Dark Wanderer

This release took forever because the original Blizzard North team basically left/was canned like halfway into the original D3 project, scrapped a good portion of it, changed things up drastically, and added some things. There were so many issues between Blizzard and Blizzard North....

It's sad that all the off-shoot development teams that came to life from the Blizzard North exodus have basically all closed up shop too, or simply not lived up to their own standards.
Hellgate: London was probably destined to fail since EA was at the helm :)P), but I wouldn't mind seeing those devs create a new home for themselves and come up with something new.
Torchlight will likely never live up to its potential. Sure, it features most of the best qualities, but it's going to be left behind if they don't modernize it in time. They need a bigger team and bigger budget, for sure, so maybe Torchlight 3 (if such does come about) will be the title it needs. I might pick up Torchlight 2, but who knows...

But from this point on, Diablo is no longer the Diablo that was - everyone responsible is gone and lent none of their talents (iirc) to Diablo 3.
That's not to say I'm not in love with Diablo 3 - because it's crack and you can't help but love some quality crack. But it's not what it could have been - and judging by what the former talent has produced, it might not have done as well anyhow.
