will the Asus P4b533 do 5.1 sound? or do i need a sblive!?

i know the little adapter it comes with is for digital sound. isn't there some way to convert the line in to sub out or something crazy like that?

That board comes with C-Media 8738 5.1 sound, which should compare pretty well with the SB Live! except that it won't support a few things like EAX.

The back panel has 3 mini jacks that change based on the settings in the C-Media speaker configuration menu.

2-speaker:
Green - Line out
Blue - Line in
Pink - Mic in

4-speaker
Green - Front out
Blue - Rear out
Pink - Mic in

6-speaker
Green - Front out
Blue - Rear out
Pink - Center/Sub

There is also a SPDIF adapter as an alternate method.

If you like to play games that take advantage of positional audio, then you may miss EAX. However, if it is purely to listen to music, watch movies, and other non-gaming audio uses you should be fine.
