As a sign of good will it would be awsome if the US would take the new airbus as a new airforce one and for the EU to pick one of boeing new planes for their main diplomatic jet.. if they have one that is

No, that wouldn't be very awesome at all. We'd have to set up a service and maintenence contract with AirBus for ONE plane. It's not in the governments best interest to make good will gestures like that when it would be incredibly costly.

You complain about the budget as it is now, imagine what you're piling on top of it in the name of good will!

I doubt it. Boeing is coming out with a competitor (can't recall the name at the moment), I'm not sure a larger plane is something the government is looking for, and buying from a non-American company is bad political form.

I haven't heard of a direct competitor to the A380, but Boeing is taking contracts and is about to start producing the 7E7 "Dreamliner" It's small, fast, and fuel efficient.

Yes, Airbus went the flagship way, building bigger and better, even though i admittedly don't know the fuel economy. Boeing won't build bigger afaik, but they were going to go small, fast and efficient.

Ragrding if they would use the A380. I think it would depend on whether it would make sense in a cost efficiency way. Because since you live in a capitalistic country, you believe in fair and honest trade (yeah right...), and wouldn't let a thing like producing nation influence your judgement.

But i doubt it, they have a plane they use and unless they need more space i see no reason for them switching. Because i doubt they can get more than extra space from swtcinh to it.
