Will the 6600/6800 work in my system?

I'm planning on getting rid of my 5200 video card for something better. Look at my sig and tell me whether the 6600 or 6800 video will work in my system. I'm concerned out burning out the power supply because of all the accessories I've got hooked up to my PC. thanks!

GC

your accessories don't really matter since they all have their own power units.,
The 6600/6800 should work for your system,, you just need to make sure it's AGP or PCI-E

Thanks for the replies. Supposedly there is a 250 Watt power supply. I contacted BFG and they mentioned with the equipment I'm running, I should beef up the PSU.

First of all, 250 Watts wont cut it.. You'll need somewhere arount 350W. Unfortunately since you bought a DELL (poor you) You won't be able to buy a stock ATX V12 PSU to put it. IT WON'T FIT. .. So... what to do? First write down somewhere for future refernce.... NEVER BUY A DELL AGAIN.
Then you scrap your old mobo and case.. buy yourself and ATX Case and a new ATX form Motherboard and move EVERYTHING to the new MOBO and Case.

Yep, only thing you can do is buy a new case, psu and mobo and transfer the rest. For referance I have a very similar dell and a 6800 didn't work.

Or, you could try dual power supplies. One power supply for the card, and one for everything else (I ran like that for a bit before it got in the way.

Read this you'll see your system will run these cards and even a 6800GT, if the rest of your system is stock.I don't think your system came with 2 hard drives did it? That may be a problem.
My Dell has the same 250watt power supply which performs like a 350 watt psu. Also I've heard of a power supply company called "PC power and cooling" that makes power supply's for Dell computers that are top of the line. A little expensive but better then doing the whole mother board , case swap thing.
Hope this helps

Error while adding PCIe video card, "Alert! additional card cage fan needed for PCI Express card over 75 watts". You need to call Spare Parts (800-372-3355) and purchase this part number:

If i'm not mistaken I think your hard drive runs off the 12 volt line that the 6800 needs for an additional power supply. I believe you need 13 amps on the 12 volt line for a 6800 nu. The ones in the list I provided are stock systems.

well you can try getting a external encloser for your 1 of your harddrive, so your system will not need to provide power to your harddrive.

Or you can just somehow make it work,, check around and see if you can find similar size powersupplys,, or you can try ordering one from dell,, or just get and normal one and make it fit,, if it don't fit,, duct tape it on top of your system. 😉

Many people on the Dell forum state that the PSU will hold up, but I dont think many have the same setup as I do. I'll probably order an upgraded 425 watt power supply to beefin' up my rig. Thanks for the replies...
