I was recently at Sun's website and the had a SPARC and Intel version of Solaris. Did they mean Intel as in only Intel processors or does it include
all x86 processors like an AMD?
Since the AMD Athlon is an X86 compatible CPU, it should run Solaris.
BTW: Can you hook me up with it? I have dial up. (I know its free to download, but I'll give you 2.50 for your time too)
Dont bother with Solaris x86 unless you are a total masochist. SPARC is the platform Sun has gone with and the x86 port is basically crap. I wouldnt bother with it unless you *HAVE* to learn it quickly and cant afford a cheap sparc4u.
I've ran Solaris x86 on a few boxes, and really, it isn't as bad as some people say it is, but OTOH it's nowhere near as good as Linux, *BSD, or Windows.
But anyways, yes it should run on a K7 class CPU if the rest of your hardware is supported.

yeah it should... there's a listserv... umm... that covers this in great detail...
as for solaris on an x86... I dunno, maybe i'm lucky, but i've had great luck with it so far.
although, you need to be aware that Sun is dropping support for Solaris on the x86 platform... so Solaris 8 is pretty much all you'll be able to do... Solaris 9 is going to be a purely Sparc platform.
