will someone explain the eye coler gene (recessive, dominant) to me?

my mom: brown
my dad: blue
my grandmother: green

her mom: brown
her dad: blue
her grandmother: brown

me: hazel (greenish mostly)
her: brown

i have two daughters, my oldest has my eyes, they are goldish green most of the time, but sometimes they are distinctively brown. but my youngest has really light blue eyes, she's only 10 months so they might not be done "colering" but they are definitely blue. no hint of green or brown whatsoever.

so does this mean that i have the green coler dominant, and the blue coler recessive? and that my wife has brown dominant, and blue recessive? how did my oldest end up with green?

oh nvm, i guess my oldest got my dominant green and the youngest got blue from my wife's side....

?

i dont know...
and before anyone says it, yes they are both most definitely mine.

You may find this page interesting.

not really that simple, though.

I mean, my dad has brown eyes and my mom has blue eyes. they had two kids.

my sister has blue eyes and I have green eyes.

edit: come to think of it, maybe my mom's genes are just freakishly strong... her identical twin sister also married a guy with brown eyes and likewise produced a kid with blue eyes (idk what color my other cousin's eyes are)

More likely the mailman has bluish-green eyes.

The page itself says right in it
"Human eye color inheritance is a complicated polygenic system than we are pretending in this simplified two gene example."

I think this page would be better if it did predicted % outcomes based on the genotypes of the parents.

Did you see that you can select the genotype in addition to the phenotype?

Did you see that clicking the button produces a random combination of genes inherited from the parents? The model is not saying that whatever is produced by this simulation is the only result or even the most likely result.

The model certainly gives the option for green or blue eye offspring from parents with brown and blue eyes, although a child with brown eyes is most likely.
