Currently using 50cfm sunnon, but was thinking bout 63CFM YS-TEC 40DBA 92MM fan, it has same noise but alot more air.

thanx

The slk-800 runs cooler with an 80mm tornado than a 92mm tornado. It can be fitted (sort of) though. The slk-900 does run a tad cooler with the 92 though.

There's a picture of an slk800 w/92mm fan somewhere in the cases/cooling section.

That's correct. I have one and it works nicely. I imagine if you bent up your own set of clips you could get a 92x92x32 on there tho.

hehe, yeah, the SLK-800 "isn't" suppose to "officially" take 92mm fans, but you can get them on with some modification. or you can try and ask someone with a SLK-900 who isn't using a 92mm fan for their fan bracket wires =)

The issue with the larger fans it their larger hubs, which *can* inhibit airflow to the center of the heatsink, which would supposedly be the hottest part of the heatsink. I don't see it to be an issue, but if you put a 120mm fan over a heatsink somehow it might be...

well yeah
but the whole point of having fins and wahtnot is to at least somewaht evenly spread out heat
i know it doesnt happen like that perfectly, the majority of the heat is at teh center (where it is produced) but a 92mm fan wont have a much bigger "dead spot" than an 80
...a 120 however probably may cause a problem...

the youd have to contruct a duct type of thing and have the fan quite a ways away

That looks so ghetto.:D Mine's worse though. I have a 60-80mm adapter btween the sk-6 and the 80mm fan, with all the holes plugged with duct tape. I turned the fan around so it's sucking away from the HS, but I haven't tested the temp. difference. I know it works though! I think my axp1800 sits @40C. Pretty quiet too with the fan @ 1/2 speed...

Just get a 70mm fan.. 92mm fans can't concentrate on the inside of the heatsink because the outside of the fan blades is where most of the air is pushed through, and a 92mm or even an 80mm fan hangs too far over the sides of the heatsink to be as effective.

I just added a 92mm fan. It's square and not set at 45 degrees. No real change in temps but it is VERY quiet

it cools other things as well then when it overhangs (ie, ram/chipset)

92mm fan pushing 50cfm is ALOT quieter than 70mm fan pushing 50cfm (although i doubt there is any 70mm fan that pushes 50cfm.....there was a delta 60mm, but thats a friggin vacuum which most ppl dont like)

I used a 92mm 57cfm Panaflo on my 900U and it did actually dropped my MB temp 1C.
Big deal but a C is a C in the world of air cooling.
The Panaflo is a lot quieter that that 50cfm sunon I was running.

Strangely, the hub on my 92mm Adda fan is 3.5 cm in diameter and on my 80mm Sunon it is a tiny bit less than 4 cm.

In my opinion that is the real reason to do that. I have a 92 on my Alpha and just put one on an sk-7. No temp difference, but the noise level is better! That is why I did it anyway.

Ditto! That is why I don't see myself ever moving back to an 80mm for the HS as long as I can use something larger. The increased surface area of the larger fans allows a decent amount of air to be moved while maintaining a fairly low RPM. I can see some truth in the claim that larger diameter hubs in some 92mm fans could cause a dead spot directly above the HS, but the Antec coolers I had were either identical or so close that I couldn't see the difference.
For what temp sensor readings are worth, my Abit KX7-333 \ XP2400 \ SLK-800 averages about 5C above the case temp.

Here is a picture of the setup. Credit to MachFive for the image. I've used it about 3 times now and it's great. Thanks!

if you don't rotate 45 degrees... can someone elaborate... does it shake, is it flimsy? are the wires stressed? where do the fan edges rest? does it snap off location? do you have to create grooves?
