Vista's proper place in the world is
to be the substance of jokes!

Whereas they'd only have had to pay me $5,000,000 to make jokes about it;
heck I already do that for free! Maybe if they want me to really like Vista they should make it less of a joke!

"No activation for you!" <-Works
"No search for you!" <-Works
"No HDTV for you!" <-Works
"No image backup for you!" <-Works (vhd)
"No SP1 install disc for you!" <- Never tried
"No LCD without HDCP for you!" <-Works
"No unsigned drivers for you!" <-Works (not sure this is a good thing)
"No dual boot for you!" <-Works
"No RDP for you!" <-works as I'm typing.
"No burning ISO images for you!" <-Works (internally :p go bitch at the DOJ)
"No ultimate extras for you!" <-Got em
"No bitlocker for you!" <-See one above
"No ACLs for you!" <-Works
"No group policies for you!" <-Works
"No motherboard upgrades for you!" <-Works (see #1)
"No virtualization for you!" <-Works

Wow ... you don't know sh1t about Vista if you can't get any of these running. You need a Mac or two rocks to bang together in morse code or something. If you spent even half the time you bitch RTFM you wouldn't have anything to bitch about anymore.

Do you ever stop spewing FUD? It seems like every post in every thread you participate in. Your seething hatred of Vista is so obvious that nobody takes you seriously even when you manage to have a legitimate point. You're the one becoming a joke. Ease off a bit dude.

I think you need to lay off the coffee or something. I think he was just making jokes about all of Vista features. I didn't get the impression that he was suggesting that those were issues for him.

Personally, I think many of his posts are spot-on.

Yeah, but you're Virtual Larry.

no it did not. The ad does not even mention vista. It just does not make sense.

The Mac ads are better. Funny and to the point ----> Vista sucks and so does MS new ad.

Yep, that's all folks. MS paid Jerry Seinfeld 10 million dollars to do that one ad.

Don't be so fvkcing dense. It's an ad CAMPAIGN and that is very clearly an intro..ie how the two met.

The Mac ads are also getting pretty boring these days. The earlier ones were much funnier. The only real selling point they have left is "it runs Microsoft Office!" (which by the way pulls way more profit than the rest of the mac)

The new ones are just the truth being bent as far as it can without breaking and the "mac guy" has never been all that funny. The "PC guy" has all the charisma..you should see his bits on The Daily Show. The "mac guy" needs to shave, shower, iron his clothes and get a job already.

My wife and I fairly recently had two windows XP computers die due to hardware problems in fairly rapid order. But after five yeas or so, the computers did not owe us anything and we were on the new computer market. And we subsequently bought two different new computers and reused as much old hardware as possible. Both computers came without an OS, both both were more than Vista ready, yet we opted to stick with XP because I, on balance, considered XP the better OS simply because of the bloat factor. And the fact that I would have to spend far more for hardware to get equivalent performance. In terms of many of the Vista assets that are must haves for others, they have no appeal to my wife and I. I do like the better security of Vista, but I do know how to patch the security holes of XP. And I see I am not the lone ranger as too may people are not upgrading to Vista for Microsoft not to notice.

So hence this microsoft big ad campaign I have heard of but not actually seen. As for Bill and Jerry, I am willing to listen to what they say, but for me, commercials tend to go in one ear and out the other. As for the 300 sales reps microsoft is going to put into stores, I will probably never run into any of them, and I am not in the OS market at present.

But one thing made me prick my ears up and that was the implication that Microsoft might be rewriting significant parts of Vista to address performance issues. Something that microsoft has never done before.

As for me, I hope this new microsoft version they are working on is more like XP, with even less bloat, the same drivers, better memory management, and better security. And if microsoft tries a $150.00+ upgrade every two years that just keeps getting more bloated and requires new drivers, I am going to be looking for another non microsoft OS.

if its an intro then they have long ways to go. MS is better of spending that $10 million on making sure that Windows 7 does not suck like Vista.

The irony is that Seinfeld had a Macintosh computer on his show (season 1-3).

You do realize that Seinfeld wasn't produced in Jerry Seinfeld's actual apartment, no? And that Jerry Seinfeld is an actor/comedian, not a prop master or set designer?

Apple has paid for product placement in numerous movies and television shows.

Seinfeld would make me not buy vista.
I hate the sound of the mans voice.

If MS wants to get people to switch , give them incentives to switch.
Give away vista for free as a 60 day trial, with an option to purchase without having to reinstall. Yes I know you can do that with vista for 30 days, but they need to make it clear that you can.

Or how about making a version of vista that comes bundled with a vmware type install so they can try it within xp without doing any installation. A dvd that they can just insert on a xp system and run to see how they like it.

An actor telling them to , isn't going to do it.

Now that's a damned good idea, kind of like the new Ubuntu release. I'd put a toll free number on the new commercials, where people could call in and order a disc to try it out. If they decide to get the Vista full install, give them a bit of a price break, and a Mohave Experiment Tshirt :^)

Yeah he switched back and forth between a Cannondale and a Klein mountain bike hanging on the wall there too. It got both crowds upset but who knows if Seinfeld even rides a mountain bike?

I love how this is the image Apple is putting across. They had a great concept for these commercials, but the unemployed look just ruins it. If Mac guy looked like Fabio or something, that would be pretty damn hilarious and possibly more effective.
I agree about the older ones being better. Some of the newer ones are straight up lies such as the one saying Macs don't come with trial software. Why would they even try pulling that?

This ad campaign seems pointless. The people who use Vista already like it, and the people who don't like it will stick with XP regardless of what Seinfeld tells them to do. I don't think Mac or Linux users would think about switching either. Who is the target audience for this campaign? I have no idea.

Also, the computers at my college have a sticker on them saying Vista Business OEM, but every single one of them has XP. Does that mean Microsoft lost money? No; it's still a Microsoft operating system, and it costs about the same as Vista. It's not like MS is losing money because people are sticking with the older OS.

Once XP is no longer sold then cases like this will basically be a Vista sale (then downgrade). MS hasn't really raise the price of an OS in more than a decade so using the old vs the new isn't a difference in sales.

If they are truly buying XP licenses then it may result in some percentage actually buying two OSs when they upgrade to Vista.

MS also makes a LOT of money on macs. Office is a huge revenue stream.

Too much quotation - not enough editing - a note should not have to be scrolled, scrolled, and scrolled some more to find the punch line.

Suffice it to say, the Gates-Seinfeld ad did provide some good advice - flex new shoes thoroughly. :)

Since Jerry was so successful with his "Show about 'nothing'", Microsoft wisely devised "An ad campaign about 'nothing'"

Yup. Vista == nothing. Bill Gates, this time I agree.
