DO NOT underestimate the seasonics.

But i would rather suggest you to grab the 520W corsair PSU. Its branded as corsair, but its pretty much a seasonic PSU. Its rated the best for both quality and noise. Seasonics waste very little power compared to other PSUs. I could link you with a review but trust me, Seasonic is really good. Even the 330W seasonic PSU is considered enough for some high end systems.

Already have the S-12 500W, just currently have a 7800GT and wanted to know that if I upgrade to the 8800GTS would I need to purchase a "beefier" power supply.

it'll run it without a hiccup. don't waste money on another PSU, that seasonic is an excellent piece of hardware.

EDIT: look here. a beefy system with 8800GTS in SLi (that's TWO of these cards) under load (3dmark06) is using 370.9W. If all of that was on the +12V rail (which it's not), that's about 30A, which this PSU can pull off. and you're only looking at a single 8800gts, so you're clear by a long margin.

I misunderstood the OP.

That 500W is more than enough for the 8800GTS.
