No, I work for Sears...they will not do that. They will only take off money on floor items and that's it. I can answer any questions about their policies...if anyone wants to know

want a sale today? then you deal. If you don't then you won't get the sale today.

If a salesguy won't deal then I simply won't ever buy anything from them ever again and they won't get the sale.

It really is that simple.

Literallly, they will chase you down as you walk out of the store.

That method never worked for me for some reason.

You don't set the price...you determine what you are willing the pay....and then you try and find some place selling it for that. If not, you don't buy. It's simple really.

I don't think any of you realize how little I would make if I sold a TV...

I'm not denying any claims made here, I'd just like to know how to go about it. I hate paying too much for stuff. I heard a lecture once on how to haggle with a car dealer but I dont practice enough to be good at it.

The answer to all your questions is, you never know unless you ask.
McDonald's...they might give a discount if you get ahold of the right person...but usually not.
Chilis or Outback? Absolutely...they will give a discount if you approach it the right way...or at least mabye comp you something.
Lamborghini dealer....that's different. He is the only game in town, and one of very few in the whole country, so chances are he can dictate his price with impunity.

My father-in-law, a haggler of hagglers, got an employee at Sears applicances to use his own employee discount on a microwave oven that was already on sale. He ended up getting the $450 dollar microave for $210. I'm not sure if they have any discretion to cut the price further beyond using their employee discount...

Although... this particular Sears location was shutting down.... so I guess YMMV....

I learned from my sister that you can haggle even so-called "fixed price" items if you try hard enough. She used to sell model homes, which had a sticker price that could NOT be negotiated. That said, they ALSO had some special rebate programs and financing discounts that they didn't advertise. If a customer got really obnoxious over the final price and looked like she was going to lose a sale, she could pull out one of those offers in order to get the sale and salvage most of her commission.

So, Spidey is basically right. Don't be afraid to start walking away if you don't think that you're getting their best deal. If you truly made a half decent offer, the salesperson will probably go after you.

I've found that you can haggle at nearly any place w/ commissioned sales staff...

Thats why Sears is usually MUCH more willing to help out on the price than BB/CC.

That employee risked getting fired...although the shut down so no biggy...

Giving out your employee discount is a BIG no no. Lots of people got let go for that...they will go through the transaction history to make sure the name on the the emp. discount card matches the debit card....

True, we will go out of our way to try and find a better price to match...but we don't earn THAT much off a TV sale...so we usually won't try and bend the rules.
