I am pretty sure those states Obama is winning pretty handily. I think the decision has been made. This storm or anything else isnt going to sway the voters in a major way by next Tuesday.

Sandy will be a great scapegoat if Obama loses.

And if Obama wins, I'd love to see him take the electoral college, but lose the popular vote. Payback is a bitch. :D

If anything, Obama's win will be attributed to Sandy. The hardest hit areas were blue states that will still end up for Obama. Virgina/Ohio seemed to survive fairly well and should be fairly normal on elelction day. Those were the only states where decreased voter turnout due to the storm could impact the Presidential election.

Bottom line is this: when Presidents do Presidential things, people like that. Looking and acting the President is what people want. It sucks for Romney because anything he does today and what he did yesterday makes him look like a politician. He's also getting bad press because he wants to leave emergency management to the states or even privatize it ultimately. His full-on campaign rally masking as an emergency relief event didn't help yesterday but I don't think that matters much to the public. It's also pretty bad for him that one of his bigger surrogates (Christie) is on most of the news shows saying how great Obama has been with helping him and NJ in the storm's aftermath. Christie is absolutely willing to throw Romney under the bus to get some big checks from the federal government.

I didn't know you were a Minnesotan. Do you have an interest in wagering, say, $250 on whether MN goes for Romney? You seem very confident, and I am very confident MN will go to Obama.

I keep seeing these wagers being offered by various users but to date, has anyone actually accepted?

(Reading Nate Silver's book right now. He mentions something about if you aren't willing to wager on your convictions, you should probably change your mind. :D)

I believe Spidey may have some money out there in support of Romney but I'm not certain.

I think this is the closest to the true situation. I think Sandy has proven to a lot of voters that-despite all the socialist/Keynan/babykiller/etc. propoganda and Romney's multiple and conflicting pie in the sky promises, Obama has objectively proven to be one hell of a competent President. I think there is a big swing going on now towards Obama. In the end I doubt if Romney picks up more than 2 or 3 of the swing states.

BTW I think Christy is throwing Romney under the bus to (a) preserve his reelection to NJ governor-a job he really desires and loves and (b) help lay the ground for Christie for Pres in 2016 or 2020.

I think Christy believes that Obama's going to win and decided to bet on him. He could have gotten help right now from Obama no matter what, but buttering him up like this is for when the NJ recovery bill hits Congress.
