Will Samsung's Magician software provide any benefits to the SSD?

Hey everyone, about a year or so ago I installed a Samsung 830 128GB in my PC. I have been using it fine since then. I have never run any sort of software alongside this SSD. Just wondering if you guys have used a program and if it provided any benefits. I can download the Magician software from Samsung's website if it does provide benefits.

Thanks.

Depends on how you define benefits. It can optimize performance of the OS and also the SSD. It provides a firmware update utility, a secure erase utility, and an over provisioning utility. I have used it regularly and see nothing negative about it.

I will use it as well.

The secure erase utility is nice. The program won't let my computer sleep though. If its running in the background it wakes it up after a few minutes for no apparent reason.

Running in background precludes sleep. Why let it run in background? Set it up so it only runs when you tell it to.

I find the Samsung software pretty annoying, so for WIndows 7 and 8 systems, I just run it once to make sure everything is optimized, and search for firmware updates, and then I uninstall it. On Windows XP I leave it running for manual TRIM operations. One annoying thing about the software is that if my laptop doesn't have an internet connection (which is common because I travel a lot) the Samsung software will have pop-up messages telling me an update is available. If I hooked up to the internet to download the update, it would say there are no updates.

In any case, I would suggest downloading and installing the latest magician software, and have it check the status of the drive, upgrade any firmware, check that system settings are optimized, and run an SSD optimize. Then unisntall the software, and repeat again in several months.

I only run crystalDiskinfo on startup.
When I put on Magician I used the over provisioning on both my drives.
Magician secure erase saved my system drive once.
The early Magician had a good temp file deleter.
When I delete a large amount of saves off my 2nd 830 I use Magician to do a performance optimization which seems to help.
