Question Will Ryzen 5600g be much better then 3400g? I have a 3400g and lost motherboard, what to do now?

Hi,

my electric company got my motherboard dead and left me with a 3400g and two 16GB 2666MHz sticks. I live in Brazil and here the options of B450 are not that great and not have good prices. So I began to look at Ryzen 5600g and would like to know if that would be a good move to me, as it is newer and B550 there are more options here. I know I will spend a bit more, but at least woul be a newer rig.

This is my desktop box, I now run an old i5 NUC in the meantime. So there is not much hurry, but some.
I am a casual gamer, some light games from Steam and HON (who will be dead soon). If the gpu has a better performance, it may make me go that way. Just must plan on how to sell my 3400g.
I have another 3400g box that acts as oVirt node here, I have some VM's running some services of mine here (I work on IT).

My main goal here is to know if would be to me a good move to sell (usually cheap) my 3400g to buy a 5600g on good discount. How better it is GPU and CPU wise.

I looked for reviews on the web, but just found some comparisons, not a full benchmark review. If its worth to pay the extra buck here to upgrade.

thanks,

matheus

How do you know the board is toast and not the CPU and/or RAM?

Hi, its already tested, byt me and the company the electric company told me to take to have it checked. As I have another AM4 rig here, that was not difficult to do.

The 5600G is significantly better doing many benchmarks. For gaming, depends on game, but 20% improvement is probably in the right ballpark.

Ok, 20% is not that much, and the extra price I would have to pay beats this (its about 30-35% more). Plus the hassle to sell it, send and hope its all fine.

Will look for better prices or just let it go then. And will look for the B550 prices also, as it may balance the budget and make it all work.

Thanks

Hi Thigobr,

this means I will loose gpu performance and gain cpu performance if I move to the 5600g. Right?

thanks,

matheus
You gain in both CPU and GPU performance.

+ 35% single core
+ 120% multi core

+ 25-35% gaming

This review has both the 3400G and 5600G. Compare for yourself.

I have a 5600G system and it performs great.

3400G = 4 cores/8threads
5600G = 8 cores/12 threads

Plus much better IPC and more efficient.

Also, the IGP may be Vega7 but performance is considerably better than the Vega11 in the 3400G. Higher average frame rates and much better 1% and 0.1% lows making for a better gaming experience.

There are many reviews on Youtube about the 5600G:

2666Mhz mem sticks will limit much of the gain of iGPU. 3400g itself already bottlenecked with those sticks. 5600g will be even worse.
