Will running a CPU 24/7 at 100% load be damaging?

He he... Isn't that what it was designed to do? 🙂

Seriously, as long as you have good cooling, you're fine.

and when i say 24/7 i MEAN 24/7 constantly for a year..ill only switch it off if im upgrading or going on extended holidays for more than 5 days

FOP32-1

1ghz athlon @ 1ghz

34c to 38c

reason im asking is because i have just started running RC5

<< just worried for the life of my CPU >>

I have not had the same setup long enough to test that theory out :Q
As soon as i get the latest greatest put together there is a press release stating that I have yesterdays technology in my case. LOL

well my understanding is that the cooler it runs the longer it will last, but im not the most.....experienced user and i just wanted a pro's opinion
i didnt think they were meant to run 24/7 for months maybe years, but for weeks i thought they would be fine

well Im no "pro" and it's just a guess on my part. I do not believe it will affect the expected life of mine, since I upgrade fairly often.I have sold my old overclocked celery setups to friends and they are still as stable as ever.

And now all my systems are under full load 24/7 crackin away 🙂

Ok thats reassuring thanks guys

guess the only thing i should be woried about is my electricity bill huh (or rather my mums) 😉

<< So what if it does go up in smoke? It's a good excuse to upgrade. >>

So true. Hey at the price of processors now you would be able to get a replacement for $5 if this one ever died, and an upgrade would not cost much more either!

As of May 25th I have been running seti@home for two years, 24/7. Of course I have been upgrading and adding more computers to the job, but the one I started with over two years ago is still running strong! OC'd iNtel 300a @ 504mhz. Now I have all 4 of my machines running seti 24/7 and they are all running great! Good cooling is a MUST and backup power is great!

<< Too many f*cking replies! How's a guy to respond when 2000 others have already said what I wanted to say!?! >>

besides, when you yourself had said the same thing in other thread ? 😉
