will reinstalling OS fix HDD errors?

i slammed my fist on my laptop while watching a football game. My brute strength amazes even me sometimes. well the blow fell right on top of my HDD. My laptop still works, boots, restarts, surfs the web. But it has problems when it needs to access the HDD, for instance fast forwarding thru a movie i downloaded. it just starts to buffer and nothing happens. same thing when opening a folder with a couple hundred pictures. The first few load and then its just an hour glass for a while.

Will reinstalling the OS fix this issue? by isolating bad sectors or something?

No it won't. You can't unfix the problem spots on your harddisk which are physical in nature. It doesn't take alot of strength to mess up a drive especially while its actively reading/writing.

And stop using the drive before it dies out completely, and get a backup HD ASAP, unless you made regular backups.

In any case, you need to replace it now--I bet your event log is full of HD errors.
