Will rebate companies ever have their day in court?

Seriously though, this is becoming an epidemic of corrupt business practices...

Some companies like Staples have always been excellent when it comes to rebates, and for that i applaud them. But i've dealt with and constantly hear horror stores ftom certain companies who deny EVERYONE, and only accept those who b!tch enough.

For instance, Tivo's $50 and $100 rebate. From perusing the forums over at TivoCentral, i think close to 95% of the people over there were rejected on their rebate the first try, ALL saying they fergot to include the UPC. Now, granted im sure a few did, but ALL? They bank of the fact that some people didnt make copies and can't dispute.

Do you think anything will ever be done about it?

i got bitchslapped by kingston on my $20 rebate for their 1GB value ram.
they said the upc i included wasnt a valid upc. i didnt bother persuing even though i had copies of everything..bah. i should have

i have been wondering about this...

truly IT is corrupt and they know it.

unfortunately, most people are too friggin lazy to do something about it.

i have tried to get something going before, but PEOPLE IS LAZY.

also, just think of all the people that pay their bills without looking at it. You know how manyerrors there are on cell phones, utliities, etc. and people just pay it. of course the burden is placed on you and then it takes so much effort and time, that people usually give up. add this to a nationwide scale and you are literally talking about billions of fraudulent charges...over the mail...raqueteering...but who audits them...NO ONE. it is a shame and such a whack in the nutz, esp when the economy makes everyone struggle.

They should outlaw rebates!

Rebates would be great if companies honor them...it allows for some really good deals for those who mail them in, since the companies can bank on people forgetting. But, if you send in a valid rebate, they'd BETTER honor it.

I would love to see a class action suit against the rebate scams.

I do recieve the bulk of my rebates, but it's a hassle....

Staples new internet based easy rebates seems pretty neat, just turned one in using it for the first time...

I don't understand the denials, I thought the rebate centers are paid per valid rebate, do they make $ for the declined rebates also?

I sent away a $7 rebate from AT$T and was rejected because they said it wasn't sent in on time. I bought the item on Sunday and mailed it on Monday even though I had 30 days I sent it right away.

After waiting 60-90 days I get a postcard in the mail saying it wasn't sent on time. To get even with AT$T I canceled my long distance with them and wrote them a letter. They never did reply back.
