Will Rambus have something to say about Micron DDR in the Xbox?

Anyone want to speculate how the Rambus against Micron suit will effect Microsoft's use of Micron DDR in the X-Box. I dont think Microsoft would have gone with this if they thought Rambus had a leg to stand on.

It won?t have any affect on the X-Box; Microsoft would help Micron break Rambus if they ever tried something.

As far as current litigations, I don?t see any reason why Micron would not be able to supply DDR SDRAM to Microsoft.

Exactly what I thought to myself when I read the news of X Box with DDR ...

Perhaps because it uses an Intel CPU ? :Q

Lol now theres a good point.

Microsoft going after Micron, Nvidia and Microsoft at the same. I'd like to see that happen. M$ would crush them like they so rightly deserve.

Bill Gates: "Do you fell lucky punks?" ROFL all they need to do is go after NVidia and they have sealed there fate. NVidia is making the mobo/MCP controller. I dont thikn M$ is keen on losing the 2 Billion its going to spend on marketing and development.

So there are uses for a giant like M$ after all.

i would love to see Microsoft crush Rambus.

Intel, Nvidia, Microsoft and many others would gang up on Rambus and sue them into oblivion

*lol*

Rambus does have some great lawyers, but the US Judicial system is having issues dealing with MS's lawyers, much less a little gnat like Rambus biting their asses.

I think it would be hilarious if Rambus tried to get DDR out of the XBox, Microsoft would mangle Rambus so hard it's not even funny...

I can see it now....5 way hostile take over, Intel, MS, Micron, Infineon and which is the 3rd major memory manufacturer trying to take down rambus? Maybe even nVidia...though Via seems to be allowed to produce non-Rambus chipset for intel chips so I don't see why nVidia wouldn't be.

But the X-Box uses an Intel processor, so it must use an Intel chipset so therefor it is "owned" by Rambus.

It's not using an intel corelogic set is it? I thought nVidia was making the chipset for the XBox.

I would love to have Rambus sue MS, and then MS utterly destroy Rambus for being such fools. It would make for some good entertainment :)

I thought that MS was going to use a PIII-600 for X-box. Incidentally, Itel discontinued the PIII-600 just prior to that announcement several months ago. Does this mean that DDR will be hard to get now? Rats?

Lets not forget that the PS2 actually uses Rambus. Just think of how bad Rambus could screw Sony over if things went too far... No Rambus = No PS2.

rambus doesn't make the ram, toshiba or someone else does. if rambus goes into bankruptcy, someone will buy it, and then they will make the royalties off of rambus production. the ps2 will still be there.

nvidia is making the chipset for the xbox. it doesn't matter what cpu is used, if SDRAM of any sort is used, rambus has a patent they can claim is infringed by that use. the problem for rambus is that they lied to JEDEC, who came up with the SDRAM standard, about those patents.

I just had a thought from brian_riendeau post. If MS were to buy rambus out(if they *mess* with the x-box) MS could bring the Playstation to a screeching halt by withholding Rambus technology. What a marketing ploy.

How about this? Since Rambus "controls" SDRAM and DDR-SDRAM and can force memory producers to pay them royalties for producing it. To help Sony out couldnt they make memory for the X BoX so expensive that they might have to scrap that and go to rambus memory. Lots to think about. Rambus is SUCK...

It is illegal to "withhold technology" in the United States. Anyway, MS won't buy Rambus off. And if Rambus's lawyers were so damn good then why did the screw up bad enough that the US justice department has stated that all Rambus lawsuits must first go through this one perticular judge that doesn't like companies like Rambus to begin with? (it was a product of there supposive "Judge shopping" that got this ruling put in place) Rambus is an annoyance that will go away eventually, even if RDRAM doesn't. They have little support from the industry and aren't even capable of there own product. They are really walking a fine line since it is pretty hard to make money if you can't build your product and nobody else is willing to because of your business practices. After hearing Rambus's defense at IDF or Comdex..I can't remember which one, they just strike me as a bunch of morons that are quickly losing all control..

lol I hope Rambus does sue Microsoft about this, that way MS can destroy them :)
