Will PS3 offer a better HD experience than Xbox 360?

Of course at this point its way too early to know for sure, but a few things about Xbox 360 specs make me wonder if it can really offer teh HD g00dness:

- Uses standard DVD (9 GB/side)
- Only 512MB combined RAM

Now the only thing we know about PS3 is that it will use blu-ray disc technology, so therefore it has more capacity. One might speculate Sony will include more RAM to "one-up" the XBox or just because it will launch later/DRAM prices lower than at Xbox launch.

Won't the combination of Blu-Ray and more RAM give Sony the edge when it comes to how a game looks at 1920x1080? Sure both systems will run at the same resolution, but the PS3 might have better textures and more integrated FMV (full-motion video) running in HD as well. This will be huge for games like Final Fantasy series (all the pre-rendered cinematics at 1080 res!)

only time will tell.
my guess is in the end with all the shovelware on both systems ..itll be a nitpick issue.

Silly question. We're not talking HD video here, we're talking textures and polygons. Most of today's computer games don't require a DVD to store all of the game data and they run at higher than HD resolution on a computer monitor.

i'm curious as to whether there will be hdmi or even dvi output available on the next xbox.
probably built in optical output, but do we need another "pack" for component or hdmi output?

I seriously doubt it since it's being highly touted as HD gaming and at this point in time, only allowed to be displayed to the public with an HD tv.

I SO better at least get 720p for games for the PS3! AND at least a bloody DVI connection!

I doubt either will push 1920x1080! Imagine that res at about just about 2MP @ 60FPS!

1280x720 x 60FPS is more likely imo.

GT4 is about 5GB IRC.

HD video footage/ CG is going to kill huge amounts of storage space. Blu Ray looks fine for many hrs :p

The games are going to be what makes the system. PS2 is notoriously difficult to develop for and with all of the next-gen dual core/multiprocessor architecture, it won't be any easier. As always, the games will decide how well a system does, not the specs on paper. Remember the PS2 was originally supposed to run Toy Story-level graphics in real-time?

Also with the XBox 360, you have to remember that 512 MB of ram is a lot for a console. It's not running a bloated WinXP, just a stripped down kernel-based version. Do you think you could run PS2 games on a PC with 32 MB of RAM?

well, what is important to me is that buy buying a PS3 you are also buying a HD/BluRay/BluHD/whatever-you-call it DVD player, which is definitely a plus over the xbox.

Indeed but I think the developers for the PS2 are more capable with the mess that is the PS2 platform :p

GT4, Prince of Persia, T5, etc looks great imo.

Xbox is better but it doesn't have GT4 or T5 for me.

I doubt the PS3 will have more than 512M total RAM. I know it's not getting the super 4.7Ghz Cell with 8 PU either.
