I'm 185 lbs now and want to drop to 150 pounds to be fit. I started jogging every morning. 5 miles per day from Monday to Friday, 7 miles per day for Saturday and Sunday. Hardly any other exercise. Will that be enough to lose 30 lbs in one year?

Only 5' 9" :(

Yes.

I have a friend lost 90 pounds in 10 months by just healthy diet. No kidding.
He hardly exercise and that's what amazed me.

By the way, he is now 195 pounds. 6'4 if that matter.

As long as being 150 wouldn't put your bodyfat to a very difficult 5% or something a year is AMPLE time to lose 35 pounds. You cut down your food intake and step up excercise you can lose a couple pounds a week of fat at first (realize that when you start dieting weight will plummet off fast and then slow down - I'd recommend not checking the scale frequently at all - just stick to your guns), although it will slow adown a bit at the end. But 35 pounds in a year is child's play and not at all an unsafe rate :)

Easily enough time, I have lost nearly 30lbs in 5 months and I haven't really done much exercise at all.

Cut down on beer, was drinking about 20-25 pints a week whilst at university, that has been slashed to about 4-5 now.
Drink water in place of pop
Cut out unhealthy snacks between meals, i.e. cookies, potato chips etc.

I have done this and I find that I can still eat three good sized meals with the weight still falling off.

Probably. (Note: This Is Not Medical Advice. Seek the Opinion of a Physician. Sounding out a Nuitritionist Would Not Be a Bad Idea, Either.)

BTW, I've found that resistance exercise makes the whole thing go much quicker. 20 minutes 3x per week on a Universal or Nautilus should do it.

More than enough. I lost that on and then some on a bet with a co worker last year from March to July. I was 205 and went down to 160.
I did it mostly with a change of diet, and walking 1/2 an hour at lunch. It's not all that hard. The first key is to find out how many calories you can eat, and maintain your current weight. It's easy after that.

I agree with the see your doctor first. You should do that before making any drastic changes to you body, IMO.

A lot of people say that but I wonder why? if you're overweight and don't excercise and eat too much food and much of it is junk why does a doctor need to know if you're going to start excercising, cuting back on food, and eating more reasonably?

Vary excercise, eat protein at every meal and lastly, don't starve yourself. Starvation will chew away muscle, not fat. Your goal of losing 35 lbs. is very doable in 1 year.

Because some people gain weight for reasons other than diet. Not to mention being fat can make you a target of other health problems, like high blood pressure. Exercise done under such a condition can kill you.

I lost 35 lbs in 6 months (January to June), went from 195 to 160. I'm 5'8".

Make sure you exercise regularly, and eat the right foods, and you'll be fine.

Tom Hanks lost 50 pounds for cast away if you remember. Just stick to a plan. Eat smaller portions of lower fat foods. And never rush a meal. Also, be sure that you don't get on a low carb diet. They work initially, but are unhealthy.

I was able to lose that amount in 1 month just doing a diet i've thought of. I know it's not the best but given the way i eat nowadays it didn't really matter to me.

For breakfast i had a slimfast shake, lunch i had a boost protein drink and dinner i have an all protein dinner (meats! doesn't matter if it's something you cook or buy at a chinese place... yumm hehehe). If you have lunch just substitute dinner for the slimfast or boost ... e.g. jumble them up according to your taste.

Given i previously didn't eat breakfast and lunch, and dinner was my only real meal it wasn't hard for me to do this. Substituting most of my intake with protein really helped me a lot, i felt i had more energy and just wanted to keep up and going.

Since i lost the 30lbs January of this year i stopped this particular diet and have been going back to my routine of just eating whatever and whenever i feel like it (your mileage may vary) and i've only gained 5lbs. of it... and that was actually just over this thanksgiving weekend hehehehe :)

You must watch yourself with the high protein diets as they can be bad on your kidneys. Make sure you drink plenty of water if you try one.

kinda off topic on off topic.. but im 5'10" and only 130 lbs... i eat junk food all the time and basically dotn care about calorie/sodium/sugar intake.... but ive never gained any weight since highschool... still boney as hell...

i know that some of my friends were like me but they are gaining weight after getting married, but unfortunatly i dont plan on getting married anytime soon. So, what is a good way to gain some weight? do those bad tasting weight gaining (for muscle gaining i suppose) powers work?

Yes MustangSVT, they work, but there's nothing special about them. You are just taking in more calories with them. Oh by the way, they aren't bad tasting now. Some of them taste rather good.
