Will older NVIDA MX 400 and ATI 9600 support 1680 X 1050?

Hello ALL:

I see that there is a new ASUS 22" monitor available now that my wife wants. She has an NVIDIA MX 400, and wonders if it will support the 1680 X 1050 mode. I have a Sapphire Radeon 9600 (non Pro) and wonder if it will work. I do not see it listed, but oters say almost any of these cards will work. Is that correct? Almost all of these LCD's now want that res.

Thanks and I assume that the YES is for both cards? They both have DVI, but are not using them now. I assume that is why I do not see the 1680X1050 mode showing.

I'm running a 22" at 1680x1050 on my 9600 non-pro as we speak...you'll be fine.

I run my MX 420 at 1440x900 and did at once run it at 1680x1050. No worries.

Many old NVidia cards have signal quality limitations on DVI which might bite you at high resolutions.

Also, the 1440x900 resolution is actually unsupported by quite a few older cards. 1680x1050 should be safe as far as driver support goes; if your DVI port isn't up to it, you can still do it via VGA.

ATI cards of almost any age are absolutely good enough, never heard of any mentionable signal integrity issues on those.

Great. Her NVIDIA is a 64MB Geforce2/mx400. I guess if it does not work for her, I can take it for my 9600. I could, I guess get her a new card.

Seems like it *can* do the full VGA spec of 2048x1536. However, it also says flicker free operation at 70Hz at 1280x1024.... or 1440x900 if widescreen. You *should* be able to do 1680x1050 at the LCDs refresh, which is almost always 60Hz. Just try it. I'm thinking it will work.

EDIT: You may also have a problem with it being widescreen. However, you should be able to work around that by forcing a new resolution in the driver settings.

Thank you, I will try if/when I get the Monitor. Also, my card has a DVI socket.

Great. I just got mine running DVI on the 9600 at 1680x1050. I do not see, however, any other 16:10 modes or are there none?
