Mainly because of NV's AIBs, not NV, unless we conclude that most of their customers game with headphones on reference cards, are deaf, are all running 3-4 flagship cards in SLI, etc. The reference blower 980TI/Titan X cooler is very poor for cards that costs $650-1000.
Sapphire's Tri-X Fury cooler blows both of them completely out of the water on a $550 card. That's the point some are making here that for a $650+ level of card, the reference blower isn't good enough and people are finally speaking up.
Seeing that Fury Cooler's numbers again, that's probably the card I end up getting. I DO NOT want a loud card. I expect my expensive purchase to be quiet, and it's annoying that right now, I have to look up a review for EVERY SINGLE CARD to find one with a remotely decent cooler up to my standards. For a 500+ purchase, I expect better.
The cost reasons are hilariously weak given how easy it is to mass produce something like this cheaply and the fact that it will easily pay for itself. It's like saying a company can't add freeshipping because it'll kill their bottom line. Free SHIPPING HURTS as a company paying for it. But the number of extra orders you get because of it is great.
What most people in this thread are failing to realize is that you can offset the cost of adding additional value by the demand that additional value creates...
