Hello. I am having trouble getting my new system to POST and someone told me to use a boot disk with video drivers on it.... is there even such a thing? If so, how do you make one? THANKS!

There's no such thing; any "boot disk-capable" operating system has a built-in VGA driver, and doesn't need anything else because that's all you can do in command line mode -- only a GUI needs "drivers" for the video. If you can't get a POST screen, the boot disk isn't going to even be read nor an OS loaded. Are your fans spinning up and stuff like that? What components did you use? Have you reset the CMOS jumper?

Thanks for the reply! I didn't think they knew WTF they were talking about.
Currently (trying to get) running:
AMD XP 1600+ AROIA w/ Volcano 6 cu
LEADTEK K7NCR18D PRO Nforce 2
MSI GF4-Ti4200 64MB
1GB Mushkin PC2700 DDR
Allied 450W PSU

Yes, ALL of my fans are spinning, including the GPU fan. I tried resetting the CMOS jumper, no luck. What does that do, anyway? I was curious about that. Thanks. (BTW, I have been dealing with this problem since October! I have gotten a new PSU, RAM, processor, and mobo. I know for a fact that the RAM and VC work.

I can answer part of the question. The CMOS is the place where variables are stored for the BIOS. Passwords, hard drive info, settings. Resetting it forces it to redetect everything.

Are there any beeps? Did you make sure nothing is touching the mobo? Move the mobo onto the antistatic bag and boot up there? How about swaping out part by part. (My problem was the KR7A-RAID board didn't like crucial registered memory in the first socket but accepted it in the second.)

There are no beeps and yes, the PC speaker is connected. I do not want to move the mobo onto the bag, that is a pain in the butt unscrewing everything. If it comes to that, then I'll do it (I did it with my last mobo that I RMA'd).

So everytime I change anything, I want to try to boot with CMOS set to "reset"? THen I shut it off and put the CMOS back to "normal"? Thanks.

Make sure the BIOS reset jumper is NOT in the reset position. Had this problem in the past.

Well yes, I have been keeping the CMOS jumper in the default position so I do not think that is the problem.

Better double check on some board the default is reset CMOS. If not make sure your CPU fan is plugged in :). You MB is the only thing you haven't replaced!

Try checking in your manual if your using compatible ram and stuff like that. Reseat all your cards and get a can of air to dust out your ram-agp slots. Try booting with just CPU, RAM, Vid. Sometimes a hard drive can cause the system not to boot. I have an old quantum would cause that to happen. Just try to get the System to POST. Then try to get it to boot into windows.

Good Luck! :)

Yeah, all I have been doing is trying to get it to post. Actually, I have replaced the motherboard too, but I think I might have snapped one of the wires on the board when I put new RAM or VC in. That would cause it to mess up. I think I have concluded that I have a messed up motherboard.. again. Since I need to take it out of the case anyway to return it, I will try booting it out of the case on a non-conductive surface. I doubt that will work though.

As for the CMOS, mine is in NORMAL and NOT in RESET, so that should be all set. I hope NewEgg will cross-ship, because I need to start my science project by this Friday!!!
