with my xp1700+/8RDA+ turning one year old, I tried to OC to 200FSB for 12.5x166

at 11x192, a couple min into prime95, my hand bumped into the rear of the comp and it immediately died. Now, there's no sign of life in my comp except that the ethernet jack lights up when plugged in.

So the question is how can I determine which part has failed, without swapping?

will the motherboard turn on without a video card? without a cpu? I just need an indication that it still lives.

At the very minimum, you'll the the CPU and RAM for the mobo to turn itself on, but this will do you no good unless you have a video card.

Take everything off the mobo, carefully connect just the CPU, AGP & memory after resetting the BIOS to it's setup defaults, say a prayer & try again.

but if I don't connect the video card, would it at least make some noise or beep or something?

what about if I don't connect ram or cpu? then it doesn't respond at all?

it's probably either your power supply or your motherboard. your best bet would be to test out your parts in a friend's computer.
