That is a low end card and Crysis 3 is one of the most demanding games of the century. Your card doesn't exactly suck, but Crysis 3 doesn't put up with anything but the best (for high settings at least).

Well, I have been messing around with the GTX 660 I got a short while ago. I am playing Crysis 3 at High settings with TXAA medium. Never goes below 30fps and usually hangs out in the mid 40's comfortably. Both the GTX660 and the GTX 650Ti use the GK106 GPU. The difference is one SMX or 192 less shaders (960 vs 768), less texture units (80 vs. 64), less ROPs (24 vs 16), less bandwidth (6GBps GDDR5 on 192-bit vs 5.4GBps GDDR5 on 128-bit) on the 650Ti. 650Ti, with all these cuts, brings it's performance to about 60-65% of the performance of the 660.
All in all, looking at various benchmarks comparing GTX650Ti, I'd say if Crysis 3 is the game you wish to play, then try your best to get the GTX660 (non Ti). I would not recommend the 650Ti for Crysis 3 especially the 1GB version of the 650Ti.
Try to go for the GTX660 at only 40 to 50 dollars more. It's money well spent for a comfortable Crysis 3 experience. IMHO.

Even a single Titan can't play Crysis 3 at 1080p V High No AA with fps consistently above 60 throughout. I don't get 60+ min even with High settings leave alone v high with an oced 7970.
To max out Crysis 3 at 1080p you need Titan sli or at least a 690.

This is a bit of an exaggeration. While in the past I've always preferred 60 fps minimum, crysis 3 is surprisingly smooth even when a bit lower than 60 fps. I've found crysis 3 actually very nice even at 35-45 fps, it isn't perceptible.

Mostly the slowdowns are nearly always related to the big water scenes. And you can dial the water detail settings down to offset that.

You can have a playable experience in crysis 3 without a 690 @ 1080p.

I have played Crysis 3 on my setup and I found it unplayable with anything less than 60 fps. There are a few games which I can play with an avg of 50 fps or so but Crysis 3 isn't one of them, at least not for me.

And I am saying that to play Crysis 3 on v high at 1080p a 690 is the minimum to sustain at least 50 fps. My oced 7970 Avgs in 30s and 40s at that setting.

Medium at 1080 might be pushing it depending on how sensitive you are to 30fps, but if your display is below that you might be able to get away with Medium. Otherwise, low.

Where is it dipping though? I've found nearly all of the dips are in the water heavy scenes. You can easily dial the water + shadow settings down on slightly less powerful GPUs, can't you? There aren't many GPUs that you can't truly max crysis 3 out, but you can certainly get a great experience with minimal compromise.

In general buying a card below the x60 (460, 560, 660) is not advisable for games. Same for anything below a 800 series in radeon card (58xx, 68xx, 78xx,) If you can't afford the current gen, buy a used last gen, but higher model card in general.

since others are addressing what card would be better for playing C3 i thought i would mention that 400 watts is total system power not just for the card itself. what really matters when looking for power that a graphics card needs is the amperage on the 12 volt rail, that is what the card uses.

the GS 700 you have has 56 amps of 12 volts (56*12= 672 watts) and has two 8 pin (6+2) PCI power connections. that is more than enough to run any single graphics card and still allow you to overclock both the cpu and graphics card. well i think the ares II uses three 8 pin power connections but i doubt you will be considering a ~$1500(?) card.

there are SLI/Xfire configurations that it will support as long as each card doesn't draw more than 220 watts itself. btw, there are sites such as techpowerup and 3D guru that give the power requirements for just the card itself; those would be helpful.

here is a page with the "general" requirements:
http://www.realhardtechx.com/index_archivos/Page362.htm

hope that helped.

cheers.

You might need more fps on your AMD card than Blackened does on his 680's or my 680s, or even my 660 for smooth gameplay. I completely agree with him when he says 35-45 fps feels very good in Crysis 3. I have not had the pleasure playing Crysis 3 on an AMD card.

Should I get ATI Chipset Vid card? Are they more bang for the buck ?

Right now they tend to be better at almost every price point. Tom's recently recommendations were pretty much exclusively AMD except where they didn't have a card in that range.

Not every price point. The GTX660 outperforms 7870 which a little more expensive than the 660 can be had for.

@OP

I will agree with the well thought post Blackened made.

Crysis 3 has many options to bring it to the users preferences. There's no need to go all "650 Ti sucks" for Crysis 3.

To give an example, I did some testing on my old 5850 CFX system and actually used one stock 5850 to see how the game scales down.

Assuming that you are interested in 1920X resolution we know from TPU's results, that a 650 Ti sits between the 6870 and 6850.
http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ASUS/GeForce_GTX_650_Ti_Direct_Cu_II/28.html

The same holds true for the 5850, so I guess that you should expect similar findings.

I used these settings.

And I played the first part of the game, taking snapshots with fraps, while the overlay of MSI Afterburner was showing gpu usage and framerate.

The rest of the pictures are here for anyone interested
http://s1129.beta.photobucket.com/user/psolord/library/5850 stock Q9500 4ghz

All in all, the game performed admirably and was quite playable, on 4 year old hardware. Not bad for the beauty the player is presented with. Framerate was around 40ish. The cpu is a Q9550@4Ghz (and was hitting some cpu limits at times, lol).
