Will my Gigabyte P965-DS3 post with 2.1V RAM?

I bought a pair of OCZ Platinum DDR2-800 RAM, unfortunately it runs at 2.1V, and I'm kind of worried if this will prevent my mobos from posting once I set it up... Does anyone know?

Probably not. Maybe you can borrow the ram from the pc that you're currently using and change the setting in the BIOS. Just a thought.

i'm wondering the same thing. if mine won't boot when i get it, i'm just gonna run to micro center and grab a cheap stick of ddr2-533 or something and use it to change the bios settings manually, then return the ram lol.

That $18 dollar ram is 1.8v, but it's also CL4 -- with the board have trouble with that, or is that just a G.Skill problem?

From what I hear, the older BIOS has problems with CL3 and RAM higher than 1.8v. Also I hear that has been fixed with a BIOS update.

BIOS

Would I be able to apply the BIOS update without an OS installed?

I am in the same boat here.. and this is my first build. Is there any way to know which BIOS the board comes with?

As soon as someone figures out the easiest way to get the OCZ Platinum to cooperate with the DS3 please post here!

Have a look on the Gigabyte website. On the pages with the DS3 specs, there is a link to the supported memory list, see if yours is there. I don't beleive any G. Skill RAM is supported though, which is why I'm going for the Abit AB9 Pro over the DS4 since it doesn't have these problems.

Yeah, I checked there. No GSkill or OCZ listed, but people have gotten them to work. There are only like 8 different brands of memory on there, and I know that those aren't the only ones that will work.. I just would like to know how to get other kinds to work.

I just bought the Gigabyte board from a local dealer here in Cincinnati and it's working for me. Newegg lists my memory as being 2.1V. I am using this memory and it's running fine for me.

I had a similar problem, and the tech support at OCZ advised me to try booting with just one stick of RAM. I did, and it worked.

yep, same here. I booted with one, flashed to f4c bios, then I was able to boot with both sticks.

cheers

Cuhulainn, I'm quite curious as I haven't set up my Gigabyte mobos yet, but do you need a OS to update the BIOS or is there some sort of Built-in BIOS updater?

There's a utility called q-flash built into the BIOS that allows you to flash from a floppy drive.. you just hit f8 once you get into the bios menu. No OS required.

my OCZ ram had nothing but problems. updated to F4C bios, upped vdimm, etc, but kept getting BSODs. my cheap stick of PC2-4200 works fine though, and i even got it to OC enough to hit 3GHz on my e6400! I'm ordering some Corsair, I hear they're more compatible with the DS3.

I have Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800 4.4.4.12 from Newegg that operates at 2.1v and it posted fine right out of the box with the F1 BIOS.

This memory is also rated at 1066 5.5.5.15

Love these sticks.

Arggggg. I ordered the ocz pc 6400 platinum to go along with my new system from newegg yesterday, after seeing this thread I decided to order the corsair at zipzoom as suggested. Any way to get around newegg's 15 percent restocking fee?

I would at least try the OCZ first. I've read plenty of people on multiple forums that have gotten them to work just fine. I ordered the same ram myself.

Well, zipzoom has a restock fee too, so it doesn't really matter. I just wanted to make sure I had some ram that would work when I put together the system so I didn't have to wait another 2 or 3 days.
