Will my GA-P55-USB3 Motherboard run Gskill Sniper 1866 ram?

Hey guys, so I've looked at the QVL for my motherboard as well as the specifications detailing compatible memory for my motherboard and the Gskill Sniper Ram I want to get to replace my current RAM doesn't seem to be compatible.

I want to upgrade because while playing SC2:HOTS recently, I've been getting alerts that my system does not have enough memory to run SC2 while other programs are running, which has NEVER been a problem. I altered my paging file size, but that doesn't seem to help. The only solution was to close almost every other superfluous program I have running. I do not want to have to do this for SC2, especially when I begin playing more hardware intensive games like FC3 and Crysis 3 after I upgrade my GPU in a few weeks. I could just buy 4 more gigs of the ram I have now, but wouldn't it just be smarter to get newer ram for when I eventually upgrade my MOBO? Or are the speed differences so minuscule and my primary problem, not having ENOUGH ram (4gb vs 8gb), should be my only concern?

I was told by some friends who I consider knowledgeable that the Sniper ram should work on my mobo, it will just lower the speed to 1333 automatically.

Suggestions?

Thank you!

Edit: I think I'm just going to go with the 1600 version of Gskill Sniper series, since the performance difference should be unnoticeable when I upgrade my MOBO/CPU in the future. Advice/knowledge is still welcome!

Idea.

Get the sniper try it and return if it won't work. I would expect there be no problem and I do not know your consumer right in detail. Here we got a fortnight return on everything.

That's what I would do, but we are worlds apart and I agree with what you are doing. 🙂

I would do some googling for similar issues first. SC2 is still a 32-bit game, meaning it can't use more than 2GB. You'd have to have quite a lot of other stuff open to take up the remaining 2GB (or do you have quite a lot of other stuff open?)

The sniper ram will work but your friends are right, it will run at 1333MHz. You will have to overclock to get 1866MHz, but I doubt you'll notice any difference between the ram speeds.

The speed difference is essentially almost zero. I suggest getting 8GB or 12GB in there, the cheapest way you can.

Much better to spend $ on an SSD upgrade.

Hmm, well $66 doesn't seem too bad for 8gb. Also, I do have a CrucialM4 SSD 120gb, but I didn't put Hots on it. But thank you all for the advice!

I think it's a failing stick even though it passed the Windows memory test. Or an L3 cache failure?
