Will my fish over eat and die?

I just started a new freshwater aquarium and was using feeder fish to test the waters. I added an Oscar yesterday and it ate 3 of the feeders last night, and just ate another one today, should I limit its food intake since hes not even that big?(around 6"-7")
 
He might not die from overeating, but overfeeding will make fish pee and crap more which will pollute the water and THAT will kill them.
 
I used to feed my Oscars about 5 feeders a day and they lived for years. Had 11" tiger oscar and 9" albino...both died of swimbladder disease 🙁
 
on a side note..my friend once gave me 8 feeder goldfish cause his fish wouldn't eat em.. i threw em in our aquarium and they kept growing.. now they are 5" long each and they've eaten all the other fish in the aquarium 😱 this has been 5-6 years and they're still alive
 
The fish will be fine. The danger inh overfeeding fish is when using flake food or pellets. The extra food that the fish didn't eat will sink to the bottom and become food for bacteria. Lots of food = lots of bacteria. Lots of bacteria = sick fish.

However, feeder fish don't sink to the bottom and turn into a bacteria breeding ground.

Feed him as much as he wants to eat, oscars are cooler when they're big 🙂

Odd, I was wondering the same about my cats. As much as they overeat all they do is just keep getting fatter. They make great footwarmers now.

Heh heh...that's one of the cooler things I miss about my cat
 
What determines success or failure of any closed aquarium system is if a good aerobic biological filter is in place. NH3 and NO2 should always be near zero. NH3 should be less than 100 ppm for fresh and less than 25 ppm for marine. (0 for marine reefs) Nitrite are more toxic to freshwater livestock than marine. Ammonia toxicity is greater at higher pH. This is why your metric should include total ammonia.

Did you just set that tank up? Did you let the biological filter develop before you put the fish in it? How big is the tank?

Afaik, Goldfish were meant to be pond fish. That's why they can get so big.

Be careful about the cats' weight. As with people, too much can cause loads of health problems, and in some cases has even been considered a form of animal abuse. If you'd like to get them to shed some pounds, don't feed them table scraps and limit their food intake (don't starve them, that's cruel). Consult with your vet about the best amount of food for them daily. Also, give them something new and fun to do. A kitty play center or a new toy might get them going again. Laser pens are always a big hit. 🙂
 
haha, this reminds me of a time when I went fishing in the ocean and was using decent sized minow's for bait. We got bored and the flys were sworming, so after we killed a fly we picked one lucky minow to feed. We must force fed this minow 14 flies. It was pretty amusing.
