Hi,

I have a really old computer and I have kinda held myself back from upgrading. I really didnt want to buy a new video card unless i bought a whole new system. But I have decided to upgrade anyways.
My current computer specs are as follows:

(VPR Matrix - Prebuilt BestBuy Computer)
-Intel Pentium 4 Processor 2.0 Ghz (really old, doesn't have hyper threading)
-ASUS Mobo (Not sure of exact model, came with computer)
-512 MB DDR ram (crappy ram, came with computer)
-GeForce2 GTS 64 MB AGP (LOL)

I like to buy the best stuff, but ofcourse its not like i can buy a 6800 or a 7800 with such a crappy computer. I just wanted a good card that would give me some pretty good results and wouldn't be bottlenecked by my old computer. I have my mind set on a 6600 GT so far. Which can be seen here...

Anyways, to get straight to the point. Will the 6600GT bottleneck my computer?

Any constructive and helpful responses are welcome.

Thanks.

nope i think you should be fine...however a 9800pro would be the ideal choice for your PC. that card is also a bit overpriced, i suggest you search in the hot deals....you would be able to find 6600GTs for about $140.

yeah i know its a bit over priced, and i have seen 6600gt's for 140 bucks, its just that i like the BFG brand for my own personal reasons + i dont mind spending the extra couple bucks for them.

With your current setup a neither a 6600gt or a 9800pro won't get the same framerate in newer games they do on websites benching with fx55s and whatnot, but it would still give you quite a boost over your current card.

i wasn't planning on really playing any of the new games... hehe. but its mainly for counter-strike... a mod that runs on the old half-life engine.

I used to play a lot of CS on a 1900+ and a 9700pro at 1600x1200 with x2aa and x16 forced triliniar af with great framerate, so yeah a 6600gt is bound to give you all you could ever want in CS.
