Will my 6800 NU play HDTV?

I'm thinking of buying the ATI TV Wonder VE Remote Control Edition for my home computer system.
I have my Samsung DLP HDTV hooked up to my computer via VGA cable and want to run my Coax Cable to the new card so I can watch cable TV through my computer. The only question I have with the set up is if I am able to watch HDTV through my computer or will I still need my cable box in order to watch HDTV.

Thanks

Yes, you will need your cable box. But, you're going to need an HDTV tuner card, no just a normal tuner card. Like, the ATI HDTV wonder, or offerrings from Fusion, MyHD, or Hauppauge

Is DLP the one with risk of "burn-in"... You really need to be careful running that computer on there like that. Make sure you don't leave anything on the screen and leave for a long time.

Do you like the DLP? I didn't care for it much at all. Got the Sony WEGA 34" instead... The DLP was a lot cheaper though

I don't recall DLP having a risk of "Burn-in" considering it's based on LCD technology. Plasma however has that risk. DLP is about the same as WEGA

Great info. Thanks

The ATI HD Wonder only works with OTA ( Over the Air) signals and cannot recieved encrypted streams such as that from a cable or satelite service, and it only uses software compression. Needlesss to ay, you will need a better HDTV tuner to receive an HDTV signal though cable or sat.

If you just want to display your PC's display on your DLP, that is fine.

DLP will not burn in. It's possible to get stuck pixels, but I think the yields are much better than LCD manufacturing. DLPs are unlike plasma and LCD in that it is a projection system using a chip with a bunch of tiny mirrors on it. It's also owned by Texas Instruments, which contributes to it's continued high price.

ok sorry I was thinking of something else... I have another friend who has some type of projection TV... (I thought some of those were LCD or CRT based?) and I thought it might have been DLP

Yea I just bought and returned the ATI HDTV Wonder cause it couldn't read my cable HD connection. What a POS. For $200.00 You'l expect it to do more. So I bought the ATI TV Wonder VE so I could use the romote with my system. So far so good.
