Will MSI K9A2GM-FIH run a Phenom II?

I'm wondering if I will be able to run a Phenom II X4 955 on my MSI K9A2GM-FIH mobo. I do have near-future plans in upgrading the board to a AM3/DDR3 board, but would like to use it just a little longer if I can. I saw nothing of this chip on the list MSI has up, however I did read somewhere that my mobo does support 125w CPU's.

I don't think your board will run an Phenom II X4 955. The CPU is AM3, but the mobo is AM2+.

AM3 CPU's are backward compatible. My board does support AM3 chips.....

Yeah, I was seeing that, however, the model they list is different the one I ordered from Newegg, which is a HDZ955FBGMBOX and is 125w. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103808
The model they listed is 95w. The wattage is where my concerns lie.

I'll give it a go when it arrives on Monday. Worst case sscenario, I'll end up having to get a new mobo and DDR3 ram, which I plan to do soon anyway.

the chart shows a few 125w cpus so it should work. I hope.

Exactly what I was thinking.

Nah, I plan to upgrade my mobo soon anyway, so if the 125w doesn't work when I install it on Monday, or if by chance it burns out the MOSFETs, I'll just upgrade the motherboard sooner, and pick up some DDR3.

Just got it installed. It does, indeed, work and fully recognized by BIOS and Win7.

Yep! And what's more, this 955 OC'd to 3.8ghz and crunched Prime95 for 8 hours and was still going strong when I woke up this morning. :thumbsup:
