Mitt Romney Aide Promises Crackdown On Porn

Republican Mitt Romney insists his No. 1 job is fixing the economy but a former Reagan administration anti-porn prosecutor says the candidate's campaign has assured him that he also will "vigorously" crack down on pornographers if he is elected president.

Patrick Trueman, a former head of the Justice Department's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section and now the head of Morality in Media, told the conservative Daily Caller that he was quietly promised that fighting porn will be a top priority in a Romney White House.

Trueman, the president of Morality in Media, contacted the Romney campaign earlier this year about the “untreated pandemic” of Internet pornography. “They got back to us right away,” he said...“[Romney policy director Alex] Wong assured us that Romney is very concerned with this, and that if he’s elected these laws will be enforced,”



With the successful defense against such bills as SOPA it makes perfect sense to use misdirection in getting the features of SOPA enacted.
Under the guise of "fighting pornography" much like the guise of "fighting terrorism" intercepting Americans internet will likely be a key part of the Romney plan.

So, basically, you better fap all you can while you can.

no one seems to mention what "these laws" are, but given that they're talking about enforcement (not creating new ones/passing legislation), I assume he's talking about laws already on the books.

to the best of my knowledge, there's no law already on the books mandating all computers have filters to block porn.

That is true, but if you read the article it's about enforcing existing laws. I cannot find a federal law which pronounces pornography illegal. Someone from the Gay porn industry doesn't seem nearly concerned as techs.

I do find that what laws exist are aimed at what most would consider out of bounds, such as child porn. Does the OP support that?

The OPs contention doesn't seem to be backed up by the article.

The article mentions Romney's desire for filters:
"Romney has promised that if elected president he would require every new computer be sold with a porn filter."

Before the INTERNET we had and still have to some extent, adult book stores, adult movie theaters, adult movie sections in video stores, topless/strip clubs,etc.

What all those things had in common was that certain groups tried to ban them and failed due to constitutional reasons.

Instead what they were able to do was regulate them ,example can't be near a school, church, playground, etc. and ended up being in an adult only section in a video store, industrial park, outside city limits, etc.

It didn't stop pornography, but no one can say they accidentally walked into the topless bar while leaving church, if you know what I mean.:biggrin:

Then came the Internet, but instead of learning from past experiences, the religious right was opposed to a XXX domain, ( remember watching the debates on TV in the early 90's) which would have been the equivalent of regulating pornography and avoiding first amendment issues.

Instead they tried censorship and today porn is spread allover the Internet just one Google click away.
