Will LINDOWS 2 Install without Network??

I have an old 486...is there a new 486 ...anyway, I wanted to try Lindows on it. I work with someone who tried installing Lindows just the other day, and he said that it installed fine...but he could not get past the Network screen. He does not have it connected to a network, but the install ( I think it rebooted) insists on network configs. He said he did not see how to bypass Network and continue with the install. He never got to the KDE screen, etc.

I wonder if this is true, as I would like my old 486 to be a standalone system.

I don't know why he had problems installing Lindows w/o a network connection. My installation went fine on my notebook without a network connection. Bypassing the network setup is as simple as hitting "cancel" or setting up a temp. IP config.

i know you havent used it before, but its not worth the effort. i would suggest a scaleable linux distro like slackware

I will tell him to try that. Thanks...it was what I was thinking but I believe he said he did not get the chance to cancel.

I use MDK 8 and was going to upgrade to MDK9...I already have it. I was just curious about Lindows.

Lindows is ok. Its easy to install, probably the easiest linux install I have ever done, but it is seriously lacking in included programs. It doesn't even have the option of having gcc installed with it. Makes is seriously difficult to upgrade/add software, because the only way I have found to get gcc onto it is through lindows itself and its "click and run" program, thus making gcc, (a free program) 1 out of the 10 downloads you get for paying for the full service.

But there might be a way, I just havn't figured it out yet, only been working with it for 2 days (with 1 day being wasted trying to figure out why in the world my X server was "crippled" and would not allow me to set the display back from another system and "view" the application on my computer while all the processing was done on the other, turns out that it is the default setup for "security", but in reality, the system is not insecure until you yourself do xhost +).....

Well, I told him to login as root and it worked. BUT GUI does not start. I told him to do a startx and will see what happens. Even if he does a startx, will kde come up on boot after that?
