I could agree a specialized track in junior high or high school. In fact I think some schools do this.
The situation is not the same as college though. One does not accrue 50k debt from going to high school. And I am not arguing against some general education courses, just that the number might reduced in order to hasten graduation.
Society pays a great expense for public education for all those years, so there are definitely some massive $$ signs attached to giving all these humans education from 6th-12th grade. I mean where is the cutoff for where some sort of generalized education is not needed anymore? If you want to draw the line at 17-18 years old why not start looking earlier? We could save a lot of money if we did that no?
I mean I am certainly not saying we should not figure out how to curb the cost of universities - the prices are ridiculously astronomical. Some of these colleges are featuring amenities - like LSU and it's lazy river that spells out, well, LSU. It's getting insane. So no, I'm not saying let's not figure out how to cut the cost of college. And I'm sure we can streamline some general coursework but I don't think it should be by that much.
I have evidence that a college education does pay off for society.
Obama, Clinton and Biden have consistently won college educated voters in increasing numbers. Significant margins. College works for a solid amount of people. Enough that a significant portion were able to recognize Trump as a con man and Biden as a competent pick. That should be all the evidence you need.
