Hi,

I hope in the late spring, I might have enough saved to be able to finallybuild a new PC.

My last build was a PIV 3.2 northwood, 478 chipset motherboard with 2 gig of ram.

The only way I can move into the new build is to use some of my current system along with a new motherboard, ram and CPU.

My question is, since I have 4 or 5 old cases around the house from PCs my son or I have built or been given, can they be used to build a new system?

Will the new motherboards line up with the old ATX case's motherboard tray.

I have old Compaq, Enlight, and Enermax mid towers that I could use.

I realize I could get a case for $50.00 but I'm out of work and money is tight.

Thanks for your help.

No one can answer that question without knowing the cases and boards in question. Most boards today for the most part are no bigger or smaller than when you built that P4. Why not use the case that is in?

The old cases will be reusable. The standoffs and whatnot haven't changed. My last case was an old beast that I used for about 8 years before getting a new one.

Make sure they have decent air flow. I.e. at least 1 intake fan and 1 outlet fan.

Beware of reusing an old PSU, though! Unless you bought a better power supply, the ones that came with those older cases might not be sufficient for newer hardware. An old cheap power supply can put new hardware at risk.

Thanks for the replies.

My current machine has an Antec 500watt which I bought last year.

My current case has a front fan, a side fan and a back fan. I might reuse this one and rebuild my current machine in an older case for my wife, with parts from the machine she is now using.

Thanks for your help
