You sure about that? I'm getting mixed answers from people and I'd hate to kill a $1k cpu before I've even had a chance to use the darn thing.

I x-rayed a cell phone and it still works.

Edit: if it's your Athlon FX-63 or whatever it's called - you'll need to take the IHS off, otherwise the contrast will be teh suck.

This is a much more powerful radiographic machine with great definition. Comparing this to luggage x-ray machines is like comparing a 1 megapixel cameraphone to a 17MP DSLR.

Can you be a bit more specific? In particularly, what is the mean photon energy? And what is the exposure value? (C/kg air - or mA.s)

If you want to see the core well - you'll need a mean energy around 30-40 keV.

At low energies - below about 150 keV, the risk of you doing any harm is very low. Above that energy, I suppose you could start flipping bits in NVRAM.
 
The min is 100 kVp. The machine goes considerably higher for harder materials like tungsten. The medical x-ray unit would probably be safest.

Nope. It's basically a paperweight for now. Stupid motherboard is sitting in NY and I won't be there until Thursday then probably have to wait another day or two before I get someone to put it together. :Q
 
Medical x-ray units should be fine. But, they're not really built for definition - focal spots are around 1mm in diameter.

So, if you want to have any hope of good detail, you'll have use very large source-object and object-film distances. Again, the core is very thin, so you'll need low kV. Most medical units only go down to about 40 kV - that should give reasonable pics.

Best bet though is a mammography x-ray unit, if you can get hold of one. Very low energy (15-40 kV and molybdenum target - nice low-energy characteristic radiation), and tiny (50 µm) focal spot.

Don't forget, that if you want maximum resolution, you don't want an intensifying screen - just use plain film. Hope this isn't a digital system. Digital systems are meh for resolution.

That would be underclocking it. Each core is 2,6G. 2,6 *2 = 5,2. :laugh:

The PR rating stuff is out of control. Should have been outlawed after that Cyrix 6x86 BS TEN years ago. People need to learn (ok I hear the "ATTENTION THIS IS ATOT" alarm going off) IPC. :laugh:
