Will installing new Detonator Drivers F-up my EXPERTool?

At the risk of sounding like a total newbie, I'm wondering about the following:

I just installed a new Gainward Ti4200 Golden Sample card on my XP box. It comes with the EXPERTool app to control various aspects of the card (including overclocking) - only thing is the driver CD that came with the card installed 27.42 version Nvidia drivers. I really want to be running the latest drivers.

My question is: If I install the latest det drivers, will it hose my little system tray app? Or will it essentially put the card back to standard core/memory speeds? If so, what should I do then? Reinstall EXPERTool afterwards? Or go grab powerstrip or something?

Anyone been through this before that could shed some light?

Thanks :)

Gainward's ExpertTool will be entirely unaffected by driver upgrades, you won't have to re-configure anything nor will a reinstallation be needed.
The only differences will be the obligatory updates in the 'Information' panel denoting the fact that your using newer drivers.

You can completing ignore ExpertTool if you wish and freely upgrade/downgrade driver revisions as you wish.

So far so good! It couldn't be said more clearly Rand!

But I didn't get this... What exactly Expertool will do in the information tab when I update my drivers? What do u mean "obligatory" updates? Does it try to update automatically from time to time?
Sorry to bother but I just started to use it in addition to my 29.42 ref. drivers for mainly having the option to overclock some time later instead of coolbits....Maybe it's also the fact that we own exactly the same card...! ;)
Anyway, thanx in advance!

I think Rand means that the "information" tab in EXPERTool will simply report the newer driver version. That's all. I was mainly concerned that keeping my drivers up to date would somehow interfere with EXPERTool and therefore reset my core/memory clock back to standard. It sounds like it won't be a problem :) Thanks Rand!

Yep that's what I get too and I think it's all a matter of misconcepting the word "obligatory" he used...
After all Rand is one of the most reliable sources in this forum and I bet he will pay this thread one more visit to clear it up :)

yes, expert tool will be fine with new drivers. I had a gainward geforce 3 and upgrading drivers has no affect on expert tool.

Thanks to everyone's advice I went ahead and updated my drivers w/ no problems. I gained a 138 point jump in 3DMark2001 without any other changes. With the new 2942 det's I'm getting a 8671 in 3DMark2001. That's at default Gainward "enhanced" mode (260 core/ 520 memory). I'm considering bumping the core and memory a little higher...

Thanks for the comments :)

Perhaps "obligatory" wasnt the best wording for my statement. I merely meant that the information panel will be automatically updated to reflect any changes present with the new drivers, such as base driver revision, Direct3D/DirectDraw driver revision, whether the driver defaults to a different AGP bus setting etc etc.

You will not have to change anything yourself.
